Not really mate it was always a bit of a shithole. And as BG has reminded me about charlies "pick a window" bar i suppose i miss it even less. :icon_lol:

I remember going there with my dad in the 60's, it was OK then, just a pub in a nice place by the water. Last time I went (can't remember exactly) I concur, shithole just about covers it. About time they did something with it - like burn it down. :)

It sounds mad but isn't the building protected in some way?

They have tried to burn it down at least three times. Its not protected in anyway its owned by Everards and they cant decide who to sell it to. Some sad bastards tried to get it listed as prime example of art deco. When in reality its just a feckim eyesore.

Is this the same place as I'm thinking about on County Road just before you go under the Railway bridge into Blaby ? Its just with Chuck mentioning it being next to the water:icon_conf:102:

How long has it been closed?

I went there once when I was 7 back in 1992, seems to have been closed ever since.

Is the car park (out of shot to the right) still in use by those of the travelling persuasion?

It's an odd one. It is, in many ways, an eyesore. I think it is ugly and violent - and where it is doesn't help any, of course.

But is it an interesting and important building? Yes, I'd have said so, given it was was built at the fag-end of Leicester's wealth, it's an unusual public display of that wealth, some of the detailing is elegant and possibly unique, and so much of what was interesting about Leicester's past has been demolished. But it's hard to see a future for it.
