As Liverpool and Everton were both at home and neither could play on the Tuesday as teams in each tie had played on the Sunday preceding.
Because Liverpool and Everton can't play home games on the same day.
Liverpool played on Wednesday. Everton couldn't play on Tuesday because they played on Sunday. Liverpool couldn't play on Tuesday because their opponents Chelsea played on Sunday.

So what's wrong with a 12 o'clock kick off on a Wednesday? Plenty of time to get one game cleared away and to prepare the other. And it's no dafter than some of the times we're expected to turn up for a game these days.
