caught about 20 minutes was quite impressed,
giant drag, milburn fratellis (again) racontuers, plan b, larakin love, and many others impressed me very much top draw im absolutley ****ed though:icon_bigg
I like Placebo, but don't know if I could be bothered to drag myself to a gig of theirs
I agree, I hate it when you go to a gig and they play all the new shit. Are you looking forward to Nancy Boy?Pretty much the same myself MF,I'm going more for the Stepdaughter than myself, got to stand as well.. with my feet:icon_sad:Hope they play some stuff i've heard of and not all the stuff on their latest album.

The Fall were true innovators back in the early 80s and Pavement did take some of their elements (especially lyrically) and then combined it with their favourite bands from the Chapel Hill 'scene' in the early 90s. That's not to down play Pavement as a band, I think they were fantastic, especially live.
It's a shame the Malkmus solo efforts have been so disappointing, in fact I think Spiral Stairs has made the better records since the split.
I didn't know Spiral Stairs had done some solo albums?? I agree though that Malkmuses' solo efforts have been dissapointing, but however good they were they vcould never live up to the genius of Slanted & Enchanted and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain, the first 2 Pavement albums were simply amazing.
I know The Fall were quite an influence on Pavement, but i just hate how Pavement get compared to The Fall. If anything i'd say that Pavement sounded more like The Pixies!!
I would have loved to be old enough to have seen Pavement live thouh. I might see Malkmus live though!
Spiral Stairs has done two albums under the name Preston School Of Industry, both are worth a listen but the first one is the better of the two. Personally I think Pavement possibly sound more like a quirky/angular version of the Replacements than the Pixies.
I saw Pavement quite a few times, the first couple when they still had Mad Gary doing handstands, in fact the very first time they were supporting Sonic Youth at the Hummingbird in Brmingham which is now the Carling Academy. All time top ten gig that one.
Do you have the Slow Century DVD?
No, i didn't know Pavement had a DVD! i've got the live Pixies one though form their reunion tour a copule of yeears ago though. I've wanted to see The Pixies live for ages! I really wasn't intrested in music when they reformed a couple of years ago, i'll definatly get tickets to their next UK tour!
And i'll definatly get the Spiral Stairs solo albums if you say they're better than SM's efforts
I'm not overly familiar with The Replacements BTW. I own Let It Be, and that is an amzing album, maybe i should get some of their others
The Pavement DVD is a corker, here it is at Amazon:

You could try All for Nothing/Nothing for All as a starter with the Replacements, the ballads are great on there but some of the songs now sound very dated eighties MTV soft rock. If only they could have been produced by Steve Albini.
