Can't believe we had 60 rake free minutes and I forgot about the game....ffs. Ruud is now my favourite manager since Claudio, just for that defensive change.

Also a special mention for Vestergaard. I thought he was excellent for the time he was on the pitch.
I thought he slowed us down, often taking too long to find a pass.

Although saying that, I think taking him off for Faes was a little odd.

A really positive match in which two things stood out for me:
  1. We were much more aggressive in closing down the ball
  2. We looked to play on the counter attack, rather than turning back and allowing the opposition time to reset. This directly resulted in several decent chances and plays far more to the strengths of our squad, particularly Daka where pace is his main asset.
A couple more wins before Xmas will put us in a strong position for the rest of the season and will be important in helping to lure decent players in Jan (assuming we have any money to buy some).

Calming. I'd had more hope for Cooper than most here at the start but it clearly wasn't working and I had gradually lost much hope. Watching this, I feel like we're just going to be ok

So did I at the time, but it was Faes and Kristensen working in our corner that created Daka's goal

Well, I've just got the dexterity back in my hands after almost freezing to death so I can comment now.

Vestergaard and Coady were excellent for different reasons. Vestergaard was just solid and made some exceptional blocks and tackles. Coady was a leader, organising everyone. People kept saying how poor our defence was but it really wasn't. It was our right hand side that was costing us time and time again because Justin has forgotten that he used to be a very footballer.

MotM for me was Kristiansen who was outstanding from the first minute, followed by Ndidi and Soumare who were really good at tidying up all game.

El Khannouss and Buonanotte were pretty shite in the first half but in the second, El Khannouss looked excellent. He really took the game by the scruff of the neck. Buonanotte still looked poor and was our worst player along with Justin.

We also saw the best and the worst of Daka. That touch when he was through one on one was horrifically bad as was him rolling the ball out of play instead of finding a simple pass. His pressure and energy was excellent however and it was a fabulous Geoff Hirst style finish.

Finally, a word on McAteer; there's a decent player there. He wasn't good at all in the first half but he was much, much better in the second and played some lovely stuff. Mavididi came on and looked like he had a face like a smacked arse as did Ayew. I think both of them were pretty pissed off about not starting and it showed.

Perhaps he wanted to see Faes 'in the flesh,' let;s hope he has now got that out of his system.

It's Hurst.

It's George.

Agree - so good to see us get back to this. Great result and entertaining - 'match of season' so far without doubt.

Always great to see Vardy score but Daka's solo effort was special too. Congrats all rouund!

It wasn't odd. It was clear that West Ham were using Bowen's pace to pull him into the channel in one-on-one's.

That was why for me it was so refreshing. We had a manager who was very pro-active in finding answers etc. The switching of McAteer to the left wing. The use of Bilal altering.

We gave away far too much but it's taken Ruud two days for this very simple assessment. We are utterly shit at defending but if we use the attacking quality have correctly, we will score goals. So utilise the latter correctly.

Real bizarre set of stats why West Ham have an xG of over 3 but only create 3 big chances compared to our 7!

I would question that WHU only created 3 big chances though?

It was often clear that Ruud was gesticulating to the defence to slow things down when we had possession at the back.

What worried the most was the amount of times that Mads booted the ball up field towards MacAteer and it was headed straight back by a West Ham defender or we just lost possession again.

If Justin was a Very footballer before, sadly he's become more of a Temu footballer now.
