Winning the fa cup gets you into the first round proper of the Europa league, league cup gets you what Burnley are dealing with
Incidentally, in case anyone missed it, Burnley have one point from their first three games and are 3-1 down against Olympiakos.

So we can play the fourth-best team in Austria or the Israeli cup winners in July? I’d prefer the team to be preparing for the next Premier League season

We normally play friendlies abroad anyway, against that standard of team.

If we use our squad wisely, Europa League qualifiers could be a valuable part of pre-season.

There's no World Cup or Euros next season (but there is an AFCON), so an earlier start wouldn't be as much of a problem as it would have been this year.

All true. The fact remains we'd have to win two ties to get to the useful part of the competition. It simply isn't worth putting our best players through additional games for such little prospect of meaningful reward. PL clubs know this. EFL clubs can't even bring themselves to care about it. The whole thing should be shitcanned and the third Europa League place should go to the 6th/7th team by right.

I have regularly poked gentle fun at opposing managers whether they be grand characters like Jurgen Klopp or pantomime villains like Neil Warnock. I will not poke fun at Joey Barton.Humour should be affectionate and I feel no affection for Joey Barton who I regard as a thug.

Mark Albrighton had an excellent game and was my Man Of The Match.
I thought Gray was even better but I will not give Man Of The Match to someone who plays less than half the game.
Kalechi always looked likely to score. He takes up excellent positions but is not so good at taking the chance. He took his goal very well.
Ghezzal caused Fleetwood problems and his goal was superb.

People complain about the Caribou Cup. I enjoyed the game and was interested to see the fringe players. Leicester may have better players than Gray but apart from Vardy he is the one I enjoy watching most. For me his performance was worth the cost of the ticket.

Well...I say what I said last season. Lets win this, qualify for the Europa, then win the Europa & get in the CL. Just in case we're not going to finish in the top 4 in the next 2 seasons. I want to see us back in the CL at least once more before I die. By any means neccessary. Play the long game.

Why does any fan give a **** about how much prize money a competition brings?

I was very interested and excited that getting to the quarter finals of the Champions League brought us in £80+million!

That will help build our state of the art training facility, which will help attract better players to the club, as we evolve to become a bigger club. A bigger stadium will also help.

At the end of the day, whether you like it or not, we've got to play the game. It's an ideal opportunity for some squad rotation and if we happen to get to the semi finals where a chance at a bit of silverware comes up then we can start to take it more seriously. Even our 'non-regulars' players should be far too good for anyone below Premiership level....

You mean like regular European competition?
It doesn’t really give us that though, does it? It gives us a chance at a chance at getting into the group stage. This is why the big clubs save their key players for league games and try to finish higher in the table. More money, later entry to the Europa League. Clubs know these games are extremely low value so they don’t care, and they make that very clear with their team selections. Why should anyone else give a shit?

I still like the League Cup.

1. It gives us a chance of a trophy!
2. It gives us a chance at European football (going in the earlier rounds isn't really that much of an issue, especially in a non-international tournament year because most of the teams in those rounds are pish anyway and we'd be playing pre-season games anyway
3. I actually don't even mind that we rotate - we're playing fringe players, not nobodies who won't ever be seen again, so I like to see how they do and like that they get a proper game to show it
4. Memories of '97 and 2000.

I just wish they'd stop ****ing with the name of it, because I think the changing of the name every 2 seasons or so just devalues the competition more.

Because it directly affects the development of the club and playing squad?

Only the league and Champions League have any real affect on that.

I don't think the fans have to worry too much about prize money when we spend 10x that on wank players from Portuguese football every season.

The money gained from any cup competition is spuffed down the drain In the 1st few minutes of a transfer window.

Yep. Hence the clubs don't give a toss about the cups.
