I have been convinced owlface isn't in charge of selection etc, but if that's the best we can manage with those players it's worrying. The only time a decent ball went near vardy or kane was from the fullbacks in a position where **** all could come of it.

I know Inler has hardly played for us this season. And I feel sorry for him missing out. But you really have to admire and respect the Swiss coach for not even picking their national captain in the squad. He isn't trying to shoehorn him in to the squad or worse the team just because he is the captain and/or "has been part of the group for a long time".

Every single England manager I can remember has been a spineless lapdog! There is NO way that Rooney should be starting. I am no fan of Alli but there is absolutely NO doubt that the number 10 role should be his and his alone.

Some managers have a preferred formation and pick players who suit that set up. I have no problem with that.

Some managers have preferred players and pick a formation that suits those players. I have no problem with that.

What I have a problem with, from last night, is that fact that Hodgson has a preferred formation and tried to shoehorn his preferred players into it, despite the fact that it took most of them outside of their best positions and nullified any threat they may have provided. I'd rather Vardy, Alli et al weren't selected, if they're going to be played out of position. Either play players where they can do their job properly, or pick a different player who specialises in that job. Frustrating.

If you are going to select 5 strikers in your squad then at least have the courage to go with a formation that has two of them playing up top through the middle, what is the point of playing players like Vardy and Kane out wide? Although he now has the excuse to drop Vards to the bench for the group games.
