I’ve not watched a second of the bloodmoney cup. What I will say without even having to look is that Gareth Southgate is to England what Roberto Martinez was to Belgium. Even if he did go it wouldn't make a difference anyway as absolutely no ****er with any ability whatsoever wants the England job. Or any international post really.

International football is shite. & everyone knows it. Belgium had some of the best players in the world at their disposal for 6/7 years & the best they could attract was failed Prem manager Martinez.

It's a reasonably well remunerated rest home / part-time job / paper round for failed club managers (or successful club managers who are past it)

It runs out after the Euros in 2024. Otherwise he would continually be on a maximum of a 2 year contract, which probably isn't best for anyone.

I would imagine Sven must have played some lower league players - he gave debuts to pretty much everyone English who was playing in the PL. Nugent anyone....?

Southgate gave Maguire and Chilwell plenty of game time when with us, made Phillips (Leeds) and Rice (West Ham) key parts of the side, has given Ward-Prowse and Coady plenty of appearances and I note from the stats even given Bertrand ten games.

Southgate has given more games to mid/lower teams than his predecessors. But that's pretty much been forced on him, because the top teams have so many non-English players.
