Mercury article today - that New is to take over as keeper in championship games from end of June.

Saw this, was wondering (a) what's the difference between the end of the month and next week v Surrey and (b) will Nico keep playing as a batsman, he's hardly been scoring runs this year and if he does play will keep out Cobb or someone. And we'd need a new captain if he doesn't play - Dippenaar probably.

I've felt this season that Nico has not been keeping particularly well - ok, he made that catch wide down the off side against Notts in the T20 but there was the suspicion that he made it a bit more spectacular than necessary.

He has been a model professional but time catches up with everyone not least batsmen/ keepers.

Presumably, there has been some form of negotiation/ agreement about the timing. Maybe, Nixon wants a chance to make some serious runs in the Surrey games to make a claim for his place as a batter.

As some of us noted at the time there did seem to be a diplomatic cloak to the appointment of Dippenaar for the T20s. The presentation looked wafer thin because the case for not burdening Nico with the T20 captaincy whilst keeping was as valid before the competition started.
