92 for 3 after 11 overs.

We needed another 25 runs at least to be competitive.
Very difficult to defend such a low total.

Imo the batting as not been quite good enough. The other day when they scored 160+, it was still disappointing considering the start they had been given.

I suppose the positives were that we get to play in the first division next season with the (slender) opportunity to gain big cash. Also, the fact that we got to play in a crucial last group game was in itself some sort of achievement.

However, it can't be right not to pick your best available team and especially when you are going to leave out the club's best batter from a weakish batting line up i.e in T20 terms I think the tail started at 6 to-day with no one able to support Dippenaar. I'm all for youngsters getting opportunities and have seen James Taylor demonstrate talent at a variety of levels and formats - but what good it does to play him at T20 in preference to HD where he can only scratch singles? As for the bowling - we knew we didn't have the riches of Durham but I'm afraid Warner, particularly, made mincemeat of some pretty ordinary stuff.

Finally, I sensed that there was surprise/ disappointment in the crowd that we elected to bat having won the toss. I can see that we may not have the batters to chase a big total - but I would have though that in normal conditions (weather/ day light) that the advantage is to bat second.

I went today, and to be honest leics were never in it from the start,Allenby went, just after hitting a 6...very poor shot....matt boyce and james taylor are to light weight for this format, and would be much better suited to the long game.

To be fair Durham bowled very well and to think that onions, collingwood and harmison were not even in there side, just shows the strengh and depth of there side.

So considering leicestershires average side, they have done very well to get 3rd place and with the bonus of the top tier 20/20 next season.

Your spot on,but why no ackerman, and also why did they not play white at no4 in the batting order.

Surely they have got to get the big hitters upfront first.

We know the reason why no HD and that is that they have committed themselves to limit the Kolpaks - but I can't imagine any other county would be daft enough to leave out their best batter.

As for the batting order - they have previously tried Taylor at 3 - which handed the initiative to the opposition. Harsh too say I know, but true.

I just think that the underlying selection policy is off the mark and that on the coaching side that they have all been around as a group for too long and it needs an outsider to shake things up.

I have seen no evidence this season to see why wayne white is often referred to as an allrounder and therefore dont agree he should have been promoted. We should have had an extra batsman in hd and imo that would have got us through. However whilst it is an odd strategy i do give the county some credit for trying to see a policy through. Would people here rather be where we were 2 years ago with a team full of shite but none of them homegrown? We were going nowhere then either and paying far more for the honour. It is individual selection decisions i have disagreed with this season, after all performances have improved and we nearly qualified, but - just to contradict myself for this one off game they should have broken their own rules for the good of the club!

Wayne White has played so little first team cricket that it's difficult to describe him as anything.

I agree that sticking to a policy can be admirable - but it has to be the right policy in the first place and I don't see why they need the stricture of a hard and fast self imposed penalty of not picking the best available team to re-inforce the policy (and financial incentives from the ECB) of picking English players to the detriment of the chances of progressing in a competition.

Anyway, the T20 is done and dusted now and I think we were so comprehensively beaten both yesterday and at Trent bridge that I doubt whether HD would have made sufficient difference. What I do think is that the County selectors let down a big crowd and reduced the opportunity by not picking the best team.

We shall not know for a couple of seasons or so how good the current bunch of young players will turn out to be - obviously. They are getting more chances than their contemporaries at other counties and consequently this is helping them in gaining representative honours but whether there is any really exceptional ability there i wouldn't know yet.

Re: your very last sentence certainly new, boyce and allenby should by now be delivering bigger scores in first class cricket. Early days for cobb and taylor
