Lets look

I think what CL said was encouraging .
First he points out a problem with tactics and that a change is needed.
Second he states that he can,t sort out the problem yet, which is i believe why he feels the need to plug the gaps by making the team sit back.
This would be negative if we only had defence in mind, but there are other teams that use those tactics with good effect.
His statement indicated that this was a short term measure so maybe we can now look forward to CL 1st new signings.
At least he seems to have ideas on our to tackle our problems .With MA i would not have the same confidence

I agree Silver Fox, no way should we start to adopt defensive tactics at home, but maybe CL is stating that the make up of the team will reflect the shortcomings highlighted by CL ie inject some pace into the centre of defence possibly a chance for Stearman, employ an energetic but disciplined defensive midfielder (in the mould of Lennon), have two hard working strikers up front, people who defend from the front, if we are going to play high tempo, pressure football then we need to have players in the side who are fit, energetic and have a strong work ethic and are disciplined and play to the team pattern, at present we dont have players who are capable of doing this so maybe CL will have to alter his tactics until he can bring the right players in.

You make a good point, but i think we have an energetic fast and skilful centreback in the form of stearman. And as for high tempo midfielders, with energy and spark...Stephen Dawson is that player. If you haven't gone to a reserve fixture...and this is a fairly open invitation...at some point in january (very buisy right now) I am willing to take a small gathering to watch the reserves at kettering...if anyone has any doubts on how good these players are (especially Dawson) come and watch...the more the merrier. I will post when I intend to go...but there will be only room for 4...my car is small.

Dawson and Stearman could turn this team around. I honestly believe that.

What ever happens. Reading was a vast improvment on earlier matches but it proves we still have a long way to go and the fact that CL has ideas about how things can be change is a major step forward. Even if he makes mistakes, it dont matter as long as he keeps working at it, he will come up with solutions. But. Putting city back on track was never going to be a achieved over night and a lot more time and some money is needed.

I agree that making mistakes is not necessarily bad...if we learn from mistakes it will benefit us in the long term. However, I don't think Reading was a step forward. It was a step back, a definate step back. The players were lethargic, the movement was poor, they didn't pick up players in dangerous positions, the midfield still can't provide the forwards with a decent ball. I now know how frustrated Connolly must feel and I think we missed his creativity and pace. He spends most of his time dropping back to try to create something. We looked like we had learned nothing.

Just hope we can now come out fighting

We will slaughter Forest 3-0 I reckon and then the Reading mis-hap will be long behind us...
