for **** sake, we are shit in a shit league. atmospheres are hardly going to be buzzing, especially if the game is 2-0 for 80minutes, as i have posted on another post my mate said we were best he has seen. football atmosphere in general is crap now, its a big game, less lowly support on crap wages such as myself, too much shame is involved in singing. we did the job, and at the end of the day its what you pay to see, complain about the volume of noise but we did a job, and what sort of one game a season to watch is sheffield wednesday unless you are a mug?

Some good points here:

he's right that the atmosphere simply reflects the state of the club and where it is - you can't fool people - you can't create a phoney atmosphere with contrived songs (e.g. The Trust's well meant but artificial approach)

he's right that football clubs throughout the premiership and those who aspire to the premiership have largely priced out working class fans - they are left to watch Sky if they can afford that and this is reflected in the new brand of consumer's restrained/ self-conscious behaviour

he's right that all that happened on Saturday is that "we did a job" - you can't turn beating a seriously crap side like Wednesday into some emotional high.

This is really not meant to be negative - I have posted before that MDV is far from the worse striker we have had and that there should be no danger of relegation for a slowly improving outfit under an intelligent manager - but it's hardly the stuff that dreams are made from.
