There's no point in spending money on pie-in-the-sky ventures which will lose the club money.

It has been said that the alterations that would be needed make the project unviable. There's no point in spending money on pie-in-the-sky ventures which will lose the club money.

In the short term but long term would make money and bring a buzz to the place. That just might rub off on our team!!!:038::038:

In the any-term, it is a pie-in-the-sky venture which would lose the club money. Why do you think other clubs don't do it?

Lots of clubs do it. Not often though. It's the sort of thing where you might get a big concert every year or two, rather than something that happens several times a summer.
I can certainly think of concerts at c*v, f*r*st, Watford, Ipswich, Norwich, Reading, Bolton etc in recent years.
The problem is very few acts can justify a stadium concert, and those tours don't happen often, and when they do they might just do Wembley.

So not many then - and not often. It would surely be done a lot more often if there was any money to be made from it.

or ( the last time I checked) planning permission.

It would seem that there is still no decision on this. However they have just received planning permission for alterations to the ticket office.

They were just the ones I could remember off the top of my head. Others that I've remembered since then include Hull, Man Utd and Man City.

They are profitable if you can fill a ground. The reason they don't happen often is because there's only a relatively small window during the year when they can take place during the summer, and because the major acts that can fill a stadium don't play that often, and their tour might not coincide with when the stadium will be available.

So, I say again - not very many. If there was any amount of money to be made from it, it would be happening all the time.

It couldn't happen all the time, because it can only happen in the summer, when the weather is OK, then probably early summer, so pitches don't get damaged too much.

The reason it doesn't happen is not because it's not profitable, but because the opportunity to stage major events doesn't come along all that often. A bit like staging international matches at the stadium. Do you think they're not profitable too?

The mistake LCFC made was to think they could make money by putting on bands people didn't want to see, if they'd got a major star to appear they'd have made a profit.

summers are also taken up by festivals, so most bands worth seeing will probably have booked in their work

As a rule it's the artist or band who would lose money if an event didn't do well as they have to hire the ground and facilities.

ha ha, the george michael linking to Duzza

forgot about that
