what is the best way of getting from West Hampstead to Vicarage road on Sunday, bearing in mind both the overground and metropolitan line is closed.

The TFL website suggests the following: Jubilee line towards Stanmore. Get off at Stanmore then take the 142 bus from stop 'A' destination Watford Junction. You can get off on the High Street which is about 10 minutes away.

This won't work due to the engineering work that's taking place.

Yes, it will. The Euston to Watford Junction part of the journey is with London Midland. It is only the DC lines that Overground trains run on that are closed.

No service between Watford Junction and Euston on Sunday 12 May due to engineering works. Valid tickets will be accepted on rail replacement buses.
