There is a big difference between
a) calling someone a wanker/twat in a knee jerk response to something they have posted that you might personally find pitiful and pathetic
b) Posting messages of genuine bullying and/or abuse

Have people got so little tolerance and self restraint that they just can't help posting something as a knee jerk reaction?

Do they react the same way at work, in the pub, on the roads etc?

I disagree with you, Steven - you see I just think this whole thing is going one stage too far in terms of passing judgement on what is acceptable banter on a footy forum

Is that Ok ?

You see I was going to just call you a twat, but I opted instead for tolerant discussion

I am pleased we are having this discussion. :icon_bigg Clearly we are trying to find the right balance and it seems to me that exploring what the right balance might be seems entirely reasonable. ;)

Why have I got a massive gap between my sig and the bottom of my post on post 220 ? edit - & this one

If someone told me that they thought it appropriate to boo at a football team/player then i would happily call them a twat to their face - so yes

i dont think its fair to say someone who calls someone a wanker on a forum is likely to go and say the same to someone he disagrees with in those situations

Why?

Is it because people on forums think they can get away with being abusive without getting a kicking?

Anyone ever wondered why so many newbies make a couple of posts and never come back again?

Maybe it's where my naughty boy strikes are going to be recorded for the whole world to see

It's no different to normal. The total size of your post has to go all the way down to where the bit on the left finishes. You have a lot of stuff in the bit on the left, so if you make a short post there'll obviously be a lot of empty space under your post.

Yes, but what is probably the most ironic thing about it Steven, is that if it had been left alone, Melts would have had his say (ie, called him a wanker), Foxillio, or what ever his name is would have

a) said something back and a brief handbag session would have ensued
or
b) gone away, muttering under his breath, vowing to kill Melts the next time he saw him.

Either way, it would all have been over and done with and nobody would be any wiser or any more upset.

However, up steps a big bad mod, sticks his paws into the puddle and the whole bloody thing gets blown up out of all proportion, Melts gets lots of publicity, lots of cheers and Foxyloxy disappears over the horizon safe in the knowledge that he can stir it all up again with one wrong word.

Just out of interest, did he complain about the way he was treated by Melts, or did you guys just wadei n anyway?

I presumed the monkey got to them.

if you looked you'll realise i edited my post as i misread what you put(though yes your right-its easy to insult on a forum)-plus its unfair to say most newbies dont come back because we call them wankers-foxello got stick because he discussed how he participated in an issue that is obviously important to many members-not because he is a newbie.

Despite his age I'm pretty convinced that the lad has the maturity to recognise that he was posting controversial stuff on a footy forum, and therefore fully expected a reaction of that nature - and was also man enough to take it in the 'banter-type' spirit it was made without taking offence and running off blubbering to the moderators

And I'm sure he may call me a twat for saying so - and that wouldn't offend me either

It's pitiful
