- Steve Winwood - Kissing with confidence

:018:

Steve Winwood was one of a number of well known musicians who appeared on the record, but it wasn't released in his name and he didn't sing on it.

The fact that several lyrics websites have it incorrectly listed under his name suggests there may be an element of cheating going on here, because I'm sure most people who know the record wouldn't have said it was him.

The only version I know is by Will Powers

That's the only version I know too. But that version was sung by Carly Simon, and featured the likes of Winwood (uncredited at the time I think).

The only place I've found it listed as being by Steve Winwood is dodgy lyrics websites that can be found by doing a web search for the lyric. :018:

I never knew that. Was Carly Simon working under a psuedonym or was it a band called Will Powers?

From Wikipedia:

"Kissing With Confidence" is a song on the 1983 album Dancing For Mental Health by Will Powers (actually photographer turned singer, Lynn Goldsmith).

Mixed by Todd Rundgren, it was released as a single in the UK, peaking at #18 in the UK Singles Chart. Carly Simon was the uncredited lead singer.

And...

Will Powers was the stage name used by celebrity photographer, Lynn Goldsmith, and character actor Gerrit Graham used in 1982, when they created a parody of aerobic workout albums. Their album, entitled Dancing for Mental Health, was intended to suggest what would occur should a psychiatrist recorded an album of a similar nature. Will Powers was the name of the psychiatrist that was narrating the album. Powers was portrayed by Goldsmith during the spoken word sections and by Graham during the sung sections.

Guest artists on Dancing for Mental Health included Sting, Steve Winwood, Nile Rodgers, Todd Rundgren, and Carly Simon.
