Genuine question. How would better positioning allow Wes to avoid the 'body on the line' stuff?
By its nature he is putting his body between the shot and the goal. Better positioning would simply mean he did not have to move to stop the shot. The attacker is trying to get the ball past Wes, wherever he is standing or positioned. What Wes does so well is he will throw himself in front of the shot when the attacker goes wide of him. This is always going to happen as there is only a very narrow angle near the goal line where Wes cannot cover the whole of the goal.
Wes also always pins his arms behind himself, making it hard for a referee to award a penalty, unlike Simpson who gave away a penalty because he kept his arms to the side or front.
I agree that Maguire is the future and maybe Shakey will normally choose Maguire as first pick and then Morgan or Huth, or all 3 if he wants 3-5-2.
I disagree about King. I would never start King before Okazaki. Only after Shinji's batteries run flat at 60 minutes should King come on.
