I hope the half time changes weren't to save legs for the CL game. Pathetic defending at corners made it look a more dominant performance than it was by Manure but certain players pissed me off with the lack of effort first half, hopefully it pissed Claudio off too.

Minds on the games that matter. ;)

Great goal and nearly 2 from Gray.

Drinky only other good performance on the day.

Poor. Drinkwater was okay but doing the job of two men alongside a clueless Amartey in midfield. Gray looked very good when he came on and the change in formation to more of a 4-5-1 made us a bit more solid.

Big job on for Ranieri. We clearly need improvements in defence and midfield IMO and it seems as though a number of last years old guard are underperforming. I hope Ranieri isn't afraid to drop them. Goes to show how much we miss Kante. We can't carry on playing this 4-4-2 against the top teams without someone like that in the team and will need to find a new way.

Additionally, Gray is really pushing for a start, neither Mahrez or Albrighton have been up to par IMO and it would be entirely fair if Gray was given the nod in either of those positions. He has been positive and direct again today and deserved that great goal.

you're not allowed to criticize people like Wes that have started to believe their own press remember, the defending from corners was sunday league stuff

but we CANNOT keep playing 442 away at the big sides without Kante, its asking too much of the midfield pair

Drinkwater was class, Gray did very well when he came on and scored a great goal.

Hope these Drinkwater to Utd rumours don't have any truth to them because today wouldn't have helped us!

Think it's time to adapt

Our normal way is fine for most games but need to play 4-5-1 in these games I think

Defence too slow to pick up players. Again no protection for defence so giving corners away.

Zieler had as good a game as Schmeichel would have. No chance with any of their goals.

Defence was asleep today.

Drinkwater and Gray were very good. Gray not afraid to have a shot, and what a shot!

I keep seeing people saying midfield wasn't the issue, it was defending corners. Clearly defending corners was a problem today but United only got into advanced positions to win corners so regularly because they were able to move through our midfield so easily.

You also have to look at this game alongside the Liverpool defeat; teams with good passers and movers will cut through us if we continue to play 4-4-2 this season. Unless Mendy turns out to be brilliant it just isn't something we can do without Kante.

We'll be fine over the course of the season. We are better than most teams in this league and can play as we always have against most at home. But 4-4-2 away to good sides isn't going to cut it.

Agree with Alan Smith towards the end though...

We didn't play THAT badly throughout. We were just completely shite on corners. It cost us 3 goals and the game.

A lot of work to do defensively. Need to start picking up points away from home

I don't get the criticism of Amartey. yes he went to sleep for the goal from the short corner but otherwise he played well.

We won the second half and could have got back in the game if King scored and Gray got a another.

All the players seemed in awe of Ibrahimovic and Pogba, giving them far too much time on the ball where last year Kante would have just pressured them in to mistakes.

4-1 makes the general performance sound a lot worse than it was. We were 2nd best but not to a disastrous extent. If we're saving ourselves a bit for the champions league then I'll take losing games like today, as long as we do put in a much more committed performance in the week.

The defending at corners was terrible and more than the formation or individual performances was the one thing that cost us any chance of getting anything from the game. Goalkeepers have a big role to play in organising the defence at set pieces. I don't know for sure that Zeiler is the problem in that regard but it's a plausible explanation. It would certainly make a lot more sense than our defence suddenly becoming absolutely crap at something they were almost unbeatable at last season.

Remember; no knee jerk reactions.

I'd like to criticize a wholly shambokic and unacceptable performance but I keep being told (by some) that we won the league last season and we're in the Champions League so in the bigger context everything is fantastic. Oh and games at Old Tradford and Anfield won't define our season so it doesn't matter. I thought we got the same points (or lack of) at those grounds as any other game, and last season every game defined our season but what do I know?

Run Rabbit is a good goalkeeper and not to blame for any of the goals or for the poor display by the defence. I thought Slimani seemed to cause more confusion at corners than the Utd players who scored.

who ever replaced Kante will get slated when we lose, bigger problem is the defence, Wes came so far over for the Mata goal he was almost holding Huth's hand which left a massive hole that Mata walked into

If only you got points for winning a half and almost scoring goals. And if Amartey is included in "all the players" then he deserves criticism. But he is far from the only one.
