I looked at the prices and was pleased that I no longer had a decision to make.

Campaigning is pointless when there are plenty of others prepared to pay.

The only thing to do is refuse to go. The FT should put out a statement advising fans not to pay it.

Can vouch it was very much under consideration but given how the League Cup game sold out at the same price and the wish to remain balanced and not alienate people’s individual wishes, this was the choice made. No perfect answer I think as an individual

I know this is not you but this is a great example of how the FT gets it wrong.

The constitutions of all affiliate supporter trusts state they must represent all fans. That’s the difficult balance facing any supporter trust. I’m interested to see how us as fresh blood can illustrate dynamism.

I’ve barely missed an away game this season, but once they made the decision on the ticket prices I knew I wasn’t going to this one. If the club had a backbone they’d have returned the ticket allocation. Told Man U to do one, let them sell the the tickets to their own fans, take our share of the gate receipts and said thanks very much

I’m unclear on how accommodating extreme minority viewpoints adds up to representing “all fans”. Let’s say 10% of fans don’t think it’s a complete rip-off. I haven’t done any market research here but I would expect that number is a lot higher than the real one. But let’s stick with that overly generous number and say 10% are happy with the pricing. The other 90% are not. Why are you compelled to “represent” that 10% rather than the overwhelming majority?

There are some who can’t really afford this kind of pricing but will go anyway and sacrifice something more important because loyalty or addiction or obsession or whatever it is. Nobody is buying a ticket to this thinking “yeah that’s a fair price, I fully expect to get my money’s worth here”.

Fans are being mined for every penny and because of that unique brand loyalty football has most don’t have an alternative product to consume. If fans’ groups aren’t in a position (or aren’t of a mind) to speak out against this kind of blatant exploitation, and would prefer to validate it, then why do they even exist? At that point are you not just representing the club, or the football industry in general?

I take your point on board and it’s something I’ll hold in mind when similar matters come to hand. Individually I’ve been surprised to see people on social media state they still intend to go. I think occasionally we are in tune with our own echo chambers.

LCFC sold out 3k for a League Cup game at the same prices. The club choose to take the smallest possible allocation as well. That informed thinking behind this.

The article in question shows the position of two fan groups and calls on the exploitation you describe. By highlighting it, I can already see the sentiment across social media is already there which by default hoping makes people consider. The hope is this extends into National coverage (Kieron Maguire already picked up on it).

But because some fans had already purchased tickets and booked travel, and because this fixture maybe the only time that fans with fewer away loyalty points will get the opportunity to visit Old Trafford, we steered away from that. But fans are voting with their feet.

When the draw was made I saw this as one I could be tempted to go to, also meet with friends from work who support the opposition. Then I remembered the league cup ticket prices and decided I'd boycott it. That's before the price was even announced. I'm sure the trust will organise a bedsheet scrawled with faeces or something to object to choosing to pay a price no one forced them to pay....much like the rest of the bollocks previously organised by the FSA
