HARRY REDKNAPP will be charged with tax evasion.

His lawyer received a letter on Friday informing the Spurs boss he will have to face court following a long- running police probe.

Former Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric, 71, will also be charged.

Revenue and Customs continued to look into an offshore payment Mandaric is alleged to have made to Redknapp.

The pair were bailed after questioning. Both deny the accusations and any wrongdoing.

Harry Redknapp last night said: "This is a non-footballing matter and I am very shocked it has come to this."

And Mandaric added: "Of course, I am surprised if there is any kind of charge.

"I co-operated with the authorities in giving the facts and evidence. As far as I am concerned there is no wrong doing by Harry or myself.

"If they are talking about this investment in Monaco it was done away from football, just between two friends - Harry and Milan - and not between manager and chairman. It was done away from the club, away from England."

"Your going down with Milan Mandaric, down with Milan Mandaric" :icon_conf

Won't get to court for twelve months, if not longer - with appeals and everything else that goes with it, probably be a couple of years before a final conclusion is reached and even then I doubt that they'll make the fraud element stick

Not a problem IMO

I didnt say nobody with cash had ever been to prison, Anyway Archer got off lightly.
Well if MM has been avoiding tax he should be locked up, he won't get any sympathy from me even if he does own our club. Maybe Gold and Sullivan will bail him out and buy us.

Can the "Fit And Proper Person" test be applied retrospectively?

Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric faces tax charge

The millionaire chairman of Leicester City is to be charged next month over a tax issue, Revenue and Customs has confirmed.

Milan Mandaric is accused of what tax officials have described as "cheating the public revenue".

Solicitors acting for the chairman, who denies any wrongdoing, have been told he will be charged in January.

The allegation goes back to his time at Portsmouth Football Club where he was chairman from to 1998-2006.

He will face the charges alongside Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp.

A spokesperson for HM Revenue and Customs said: "I can confirm that RCPO (Revenue and Customs Prosecution Office) have informed solicitors acting for Mr Redknapp and Mr Mandaric that a decision has been taken to charge them during the week commencing 11 January.

"The solicitors have been informed that their clients will be charged with cheating the revenue but the exact nature of the charge or charges has not yet been articulated.

"They will be informed of the exact nature of the charge or charges when charged during the week commencing 11 January."

In a statement, Mr Mandaric said: "This is not a football matter, it is a private matter between me and Harry Redknapp.

"I've done nothing wrong and have instructed my legal team."

I think the last sentence should read ....

"I've done nothing wrong and have instructed my legal team to dig me out of this big fecking hole I now find myself in."

Good to see that the season of goodwill is having such a profound affect upon you!

Why? If he has broken the law it's his own fault isn't it? Just because he is our chairman makes no difference whatsoever

Quite - the track record for obtaining convictions in the prosecution of alleged ''economic" crimes is notoriously poor.

The most likely winners will be the respective legal teams. Lots of fine detail, obscure audit trails and excessive hours.

In the meantime for the benefit of the likes of harboro' fox - I can reveal that in England people are innocent until proved guilty - so its a bit early for speculating about people being banged up.

Tell that to the OB then!
