A baguette can be a number of things, depending on context. Generally speaking, it's any stick type thing; wand, baton, stick... and of course, that particular loaf of bread. In theory, go into a bakers in France and ask for baguettes, you could be handed chopsticks.

Personally speaking, I reckon baguette (as in the bread) is only good for a few hours after baking. After that... well, it becomes like a stick type thing... maybe that's the reason for the name?
