You could go to the Leicester Records Office in South Wigston and flip through the old copies of the Leicester Mercury on microfilm.

I've been to the records office to look at old Mercurys. The staff there are really helpful if you don't know what you're doing.

i did an english study on the difference in language used in the 60's and begore then compared to football write ups of today. and i found exactly what i was looking for at the records office. you can print the reports from some cand of film onto paper. brilliant facility
