Former Wales international Matthew Jones is training with Llanelli and could be set for a sensational comeback with his hometown club. The ex-Leeds United, Leicester City and Wales midfielder, from Morfa, is understood to be looking to return to the game following his premature retirement through injury in June 2004.
Jones, who will be 27 next month, was forced to call time on his career after severe back problems on top of rupturing his cruciate ligaments.
But the Star understands he has participated in training sessions with Peter Nicholas's squad with a view to a possible return.
The situation regarding Jones's position remains a little unclear.
It is unknown whether he took an insurance pay-out following his retirement. If so, he would not be allowed to play full time unless it is paid back.
Jones would always have the option of playing on a part-time contract with the Reds, which would not require the money to be paid back.
With 13 international caps to his name, Jones would be a huge signing for Llanelli as they look to win their first Welsh Premier League title.
