The hysterically annoying and totally unfounded, but traditional, January 2025 rumours thread.

Rodgers, Maresca and now RVN have been promised funds, only to be denied them.

Nah, seriously, it's a perspective that baffles me. And we hear it often enough. How do we know? Sure, Rodgers complained (and, oddly, he'd be about the only one I'd believe, but only because he was the first) We don't hear the other side from the club because, well, the club don't say ...anything.... ever.

Maresca and RvN have less credibility (and, tbf to RvN, I don't think he has complained... yet) Our problems are well known so any prospective manager would be asking the question.

Fwiw, I don't believe for a moment that the club would bare-faced lie. Why would they? What possible benefit is there to lying? I honestly believe managers would be made aware of the situation; the need to sell players first (and we've heard that, from managers even - so they DO know), to reduce the wages bill, the PSR situation and how it limits us in the transfer market. It's not simply about having the funds (I think we have them) it's about being able/allowed to spend them. The club has to be very careful, especially now. I'm sure any statement of intention is very much hedged against that backdrop.

I get the frustrations, from both managers and fans, but we ought also realise that we ****ed up (and you can pick your own scapegoat if you want, but it's kinda immaterial - we are were we are) and we are now paying the price for ****ing up.

Totally agree.

This perception is all wrong. There are a load of reasons we've not signed anyone. I don't know what they are. Unless you are in the club know one does.

PSR, Budget, player availability, players not wanting to come to us. All reasons.

The problem ( and I do understand it ) is that fans have totally lost faith with the leadership of the club. Meaning any lack of action or communication is perceived in the negative

I agree, I don't think the club has done itself any favours over the years. I think there are legitimate complaints fans could make that the club would do well to address. Maybe starting with how it all went wrong.

I actually think we deserve this. Pains me to say it, but if this shit wakes some people up so we make meaningful change, it’ll be worth it.

But there’s the worry, that is a massive “if”. Do any of us actually think that anything will change regards the running of the club and the individuals in charge when we get relegated? Of if we get hit with a transfer embargo and/or a points deduction? Or regardless of what happens?

Our only hope is for a new owner. But we have to be one of the least attractive clubs to anyone wanting to buy a football team.

We’ll go down and the same people will continue to do the same things.

I don't think there's a problem with the ownership but I do think there's a problem with the running. The former needs to wake up to the latter. I think changes need to be made, if only as sacrifices on the alter of supporter opinion.

Rudkin's earned his fill. He can happily retire now. Time for new direction on the footballing side. Current lot has run its course.

The entire problem is the owner.

He's ruined everything.

The ownership is ultimately responsible for the running of the club. Are they not?

No offense mate, that sentence is a contradiction

That’s rubbish. Sacrifice of supporter opinion, what?

Again, I’m not having a go or trying to be rude to you. Change should be made because mistakes have been consistently made for far too long. This isn’t just about supporter opinion. No one with an ounce of common (let alone business) sense would suggest that change isn’t needed.

In 24 league games we have a single clean sheet. If this isn't telling enough I don't know what is. We need to recruit some actual defenders, across the entire back line. We won't of course, and the management will keep their fingers crossed that the continued consistency of the back line will eventually lead to some coherent defending. Alas, continuing to play these chancers in a back line against Premier League opposition will lead to nothing more than goals for whatever the opposition is. Is Souttar still an option? I mean he's not really shown much, but surely worth a run out?

Not necessarily, there are plenty of examples in life of owners who do not manage things and are badly advised.

I've got a mate who owns a property and rented it out. He let an agent run it for him. He was full of good intentions, didnt want the tennents to pay more than a reasonable rent, he didn't even want to make much of a profit. It's just that his dad had left him the house, in his will, and he just wanred somewhere to keep his money.

But the tennants were wankers, wrecked the house, stripped it bare, the house lost its value, and the agents, who were supposed to look after it, were basically shit and did nothing to either get new tennants or redress the loss.

Now everyone in the street is complaining because it looks like a ****ing bombsite, and they want it sorted.

Yeh, so my mate..... who I haven't made up,....is in a bit of quandary. He's got money and could do it up, get a new agent and new nice tennants? He doesn't know what to do and is asking me for advice.

What should I tell him?
