According to John Percy on Twitter his contract has been terminated by mutual consent.

Forgot he was still here.

Thanks for what you did Matt, but you stopped being good enough some time ago.

At times a superb servant to the shirt. Thanks Mr Oakley. Simply sublime away at Cheltenham a few years' back.

About time really to be honest. He was a good enough player whilst he was actually playing but it seems like it has been a couple of years since he last played for us and we seem to have a number of players that are just here being paid and not actually playing for the team.

I imagine his contract is up at the end of this season anyway so best thing for both parties really that he moves on now. No point us paying him if he's not playing and it also allows him to concentrate soley on his post football career now.

All the best Matt!!

Never really rated him tbh, he was good at League One level, but as I said, I never really rated him anywhere above that

No hard feelings. Pleased to have had him at the club, but he's served his use. Howard off next, with a little luck.

Thank feck for that

So long, and thanks for all the fish

Oakley made far more money out of his time at the club than his contributed deserved. One good season (in league one) out of four and a half years ain't good enough for me.

Remembering the nervousness around at the time that we'd find ourselves stuck in the 3rd tier like the other fallen giants Leeds, Forest, Wednesday, Hull. I'd say Matt's pivotal contribution to a fairly painless march to the Division 1 title is something to be grateful for.

And this differentiates him in what way exactly from the other 150+ wearers of the shirt over the last 12 years?

Have to agree with Ike. Played a big part in the side that got promoted from League One, never really made the step up to the Championship, but still have a lot of time for him ad am grateful for hims contribution for that season.

He was, at one point, a rather talented footballer.

Getting old is inevitable. And shit.

Oakley's advancing years have been unkind physically.

Oakley's advancing years have been unkind physically.

Getting old is not inevitable and it certainly beats the alternative.

As for his "advancing years" he is 34. I have ties older than Matt Oakley.

Matt Oakley was an intelligent player with a good first touch who did not shirk a tackle although I feel bravery did not come naturally to him. When we got back into the Championship under Pearson he was struggling for pace and this could only get worse which it did.
