Bruce ends chase for striker John

Birmingham manager Steve Bruce has given up with his attempt to sign Fulham striker Collins John.

Bruce was keen to get the 20-year-old on board but John did not favour a move away from the Premiership.

Blues boss Bruce told the Birmingham Mail: "Collins John is someone who has been flagged up but we have ended our interest in him.

"We did everything we could to get him, but we have to respect that he didn't want to drop down a division."

Blues' McSheffrey bid is rejected

Birmingham manager Steve Bruce has had a second bid for Coventry City striker Gary McSheffrey turned down.

The Sky Blues have already rejected one reported £2m bid from Blues as they are keen to hold on to the services of the 23-year-old.

Coventry boss Micky Adams said: "Birmingham contacted us to increase their original offer and it's fair to say we turned them down.

"He is a Coventry player and I want it to stay that way," Adams added.

McSheffrey scored 17 goals for the Sky Blues last season and Adams added: "Speculation like this is very unsettling for the player.

"We need to move on sooner rather than later so we can concentrate on the new season."

McSheffrey started his career at Coventry but has had loan spells at Stockport and Luton.

then we should knock him back aswell
