Hearts defender Alan Maybury is set to open talks with the club over a new deal soon.

The former Leeds United man is out of contract in the summer and would be able to talk to interested clubs abroad in January.

Maybury is not worried by the lack of talks at Tynecastle and is happy to stay at the club.

"There will be talks before January but my contract is to the end of the season and I am happy here. I am sure there will be talks before the New Year but, for now, I just want to concentrate on the football," said Maybury.

"I like the club and the city and am delighted to have come here. I have no regrets about the move whatsoever.

"January is coming up fast but there have been no real meetings as yet as I have been trying to concentrate on my football."

Good for Hearts. Maybury is good, but was never going to single handidly solve our problems. Sadly there is no quick fix for that, like everything else in life that matters you have to work long and hard to succeed.

There is a battle ahead, and many small one will be lost along the way. But if we stick together, and keep our heads above water, we will come through.

"before january" ?
its 31st december tomorrow... when was this interview done?
we're pretty sure hes goin altho im sure he would stay at tynie if there were no offers, but the chances of that, im afraid.....
pretty sure u or celtic for him

I remember CL saying how happy he was at Hearts and wanting to concentrate on the Football blah blah blah, what do you expect Maybury to say 'I can't wait to go,can't stand the place' really adear himself to the Hearts fans then if he did stay wouldn't he?

hes coming.
He wants to play in prem or with a 1st division club able of promotion he will come defo

or with a 1st division club able of promotion?

is there a timescale for that one

to be fair i dont think we should underestimate the appeal of coming to a club like leicester for most SPL players - after all we play in front of 20,000 plus regularly - compared with the 10 or 11,000 hearts get, we've been in the premiership recently enough to still be regarded by most outsiders as a 'big' club in div 1 and we have a manager who was very highly rated north of the border

Good post Country Fox, could'nt agree more, one more thing which should'nt be forgotten is that we would be able to offer bigger wages than any of the SPL except the Old Firm.

I think if we are after him he will come. He may want to try & prove himself again in England & if he has alot respect for the guy who saved his career, he may fancy his chances here now.

How many European spots do Scotland get? Would Hearts qualify where they are now? This could be a major factor for him.

Then I suppose he could ask anyone if we're pants.. They would say "yes" & he'd stay at Hearts.

I agree if CL wants him and is given the cash then I'd be surprised if he didn't come unless some one else comes in for him,I doubt he'll stay at Hearts but I could be wrong.

Thats still a good age for a forward. Hopefully he isn't a carbon copy of Scowy! What I have heard about him suggests he can bang them in, just has an attitude problem from time to time...lets hope that he (provided he comes) can form some sort of partnership with Connolly that gets them both scoring goals.

How does everyone else feel about him? If he comes are we happy?

It is a difficult one because having never seen De Vries play it is hard to judge, however if CL thinks he is good enough then I would be happy to trust him.

Think I found some stats if you find them interesting. I havn't seen de Vries too much. When I did I have to say he looked alright on the ball for his size.

great news about maybury, lets hope it all goes through. dont know much about de vries beyond whats been said on this forum but he couldnt do much worse than the current strikers in terms of scoring record and levein must know his game inside out - he sounds a little bit like marcus bent - big lad but still good with the ball at feet
