Excellent news, hope it curbs his rashness and not his enthusiasm

From OS:

McCarthy Takes The Armband

Leicester City boss Rob Kelly has confirmed that Patrick McCarthy will skipper his side for the upcoming campaign.

The Foxes defender deputised in the role last season for the majority of matches, although Danny Tiatto remained the official club captain.

But speaking after the Macclesfield friendly, Kelly revealed that he would be giving McCarthy the job on a full time basis for the upcoming campaign.

He said: "Patrick is a leader and I am sure he will make a great captain for Leicester City Football Club.

"I have spoken to Danny and he fully understands the situation. I want him to concentrate on himself this season and therefore I have tried to take any extra responsibility away from him."

McCarthy added: "I have always dreamt of captaining a big side like Leicester.

"There are a lot of big voices in the dressing room, so it isn't going to all be on my shoulders. I will be getting a helping hand throughout the season from the senior professionals like Danny Tiatto, Alan Maybury, Andy Johnson and Rab Douglas."

It's odd though that RK hopes just the opposite in the case of Tiatto - that removing the armband from him will curb his recklessness and over-enthusiasm. (My words - although I am sure that RK has used them in private).

The player that seems to be doing a lot of the organising and 'bossing about' is Andy Johnson - he is certainly the go-between between bench and pitch. Wouldn't be surprised to see him with the armband at some stage if he's around for a while.

The guy exhibits passion and willingness to shout the odds at the other players and encourage where necessary. Great choice of captain.

Brilliant news. The lad deserves it in my opinion, someone who is proud to be in lcfc blue at last.

'Tis true. I heard him last shouting, "Come on lads. I've got a monkey on us at 13/8on. FFS get it in!"

Which leads me to ask the following trivia question!

Q: Which ex-lcfc player so impressed the club he was on loan to that they made him captain? Name the player and club!

And with any luck I will have remembered the answer by the time somebody sends it in. Can't understand why I am so tired today!.
