MDV had a very good game yesterday, and i tell you what, it really helps when he gets good service. We actually put some decent balls in to the box.BTW, did any others take advantage of my 2-1 tip given exclusively to this forum on Friday? 1-0 to us on Saturday, incidentally.

Hammill did well, he was quite purposeful, striding forward. He seems to lack confidence at times but that will come - assume he will make way for Smith on Saturday though. If we have no chance of signing Smith long term I would be tempted to stick with Hammill tbh.

The point is not whether MDV is better worse than Hume and Hammond, the point is that they are all league 1 strikers made worse by poor service. I have been a supporter for the last 16 years (season ticket for the last 5) and this is honestly one of the worst patches I can remember. We have no natural goalscorers. Why, when teams like Sheff Unt go out and get Neil Shipperly and the likes for next to nothing do we go out and get a striker who hasn't scored a league goal EVER!

And nobody will ever convince me that Paddy McCarthy, good though he is, is better than Matt Heath.

In my humble opinion, bring Tommy Wright back and give him a game with Hume or even try one of the youths such as O'Grady, Porter or Dodds, all who have been knocking them in for the reserves.

In my humble opinion, bring Tommy Wright back and give him a game with Hume or even try one of the youths such as O'Grady, Porter or Dodds, all who have been knocking them in for the reserves.

Tommy Wright, I'm afraid has been going backwards ever since he went on loan to Brentford. He doesn't have the necessary pace or guile to make it in our league, I am afraid. With Heath, I agree with CL, who pointed out that as talented as he may be, he tended to swith off during games. McCarthy is not the finished article by any means, but he is playing regular first team football for the first time in his life and looks a real prospect.

That’s because TW is playing in a lower division. Heath is a terrible defender and the only thing going for him is that he is tall and can head the ball (not necessarily in the right direction though). Also people are only turning nasty because you are talking crap!

MDV without a doubt deserves better treatment, he trained early pre season and is our top scorer, he also puts in effort. This is why he gets picked. Why partner o grady with hume? What is logical about leaving out the top scorer?

Well I guess it is fair to say that I fall into the bracket of 'MDV sceptic', (not hater! I don't hate anyone with the exception of Dennis Wise...and certainly not anyone who wears our colours!!!), so I guess I will have to apologise because DeVries was brilliant yesterday.

The ONLY criticism I can find from it is that he doesn't do what he did yesterday often enough! His play was excellent (especially in the second half), put himself about, demanded the ball, held it up beautifully and brought Hume into play on a good few occassions.

Why Mark don't you do that every game...you would never be questioned again if you did!!!

I have never openly booed the man so the only reason I can think of as to why he doesn't play to that standard every game, is that the people who do boo him seriously damage his confidence! Lets all get behind him and see what else he can do!

the reason why MDV has this group of 'haters' is down to his inconsistancy. i went to sheff utd and there he looked amazing at times, chesting the ball down and turning two defenders and then later in the game he has a good shooting chance in the box and what does he do??? slip over. ok im a firm believer of the theory SHIT HAPPENS and we'll leave that mistake down to that. this is why people are sceptical about MDV because he can and does look awfull at times and with him being a stiker is expected to score. the reason why people don't get on hume's back are because he is an exciting player, he WILL pick the ball up and run at a defender, and he WILL shoot from distance and try little tricks ect every time he plays, he may not score but he is an exciting player and that is good to watch. Now what is exciting about watching a 6ft+ striker being able to jump about 6 ins of the ground, be unable to control the ball when he is in space and looks as if he is running at the same speed as tortoise with three legs!

Party tricks and wayward shots don't win matches, Ball in the net does. MDV has 8 goals. Whether you think he's exciting or not, personally I don't give a chuff, coz at the mo he is doing the biz and warrants his place in the team.
