as a few of you know my computer was wiped about a week ago. So i have once again got the 'trial' version of office which only allows about 20 uses before it becomes limited access.

Now i did have the full office CD which i cant find at the moment but i have got a harddrive from a laptop that broke that has office installed. I went to it and clicked word and it said the operation cant be performed on this system (or words to that effect).

If i copied and pasted that version of office from the hard drive to my current C drive would it work? ive had a look in the programme files for the 'install' button but couldnt find it.

I just really want to be able to open current word files i have on my back up drives.

thanks

Very unlikely, it will need to go through the install process to work properly.

Which version of Word is it?

Microsoft have a free Word viewer you can use to open documents, but I'm not sure if they have one for the 2007 version. You can download it from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...87-8732-48D5-8689-AB826E7B8FDF&displaylang=en

You could also try using http://www.openoffice.org/ which will also allow you to edit the documents.

There are also several online utilities that will convert Word files to PDF which might be the easiest way to do it if you don't want to install any new software.

The documents i have are mostly MW2003.

if i downloaded openoffice would i be able to open word files with it? I ask because i think i did it before on an old computer either with open office or a programme like it wouldnt allow the documents to be opened.

Yes. That's why I suggested you use it.

i thought that might be the case but i just wanted to check.

I have to be specific as well, as ill be starting uni again in a few weeks doing teacher training and so ill be making a lot of files that will need to be transfered from one system to another.

I assume as it can open word files, that when saved Word can open the open office files. (and its version of excel and powerpoint if it has it)

It can - but you must save them as .doc (Word) files in OpenOffice rather than as OpenOffice text files.
