Guess what I did.......I heard the song, I listened to the song, I liked ths song. I didn't feel the need to analyze, scrutinse, compare and read a million and one pretentious music sites and reviews before deciding my opinion.

As a result of liking the song, I bought the album. Just how i like it be.

I agree melts when did it become soo wrong to hear a song on the radio that is played alot, like it and then go and buy the album. I listen to lots on the radio that is over hyped and I dont like it and therefore I change the radio staion and I dont buy the single/album. I dont see the problem, it is only society that has made it "wrong" to like an artist played on the radio and that is truely wank.

I just can't explain my hatred and how people are getting into this honeytrap.

I hate the accusement of pretentious. I can't think of a single band I own that is pretentious. In fact, if you name a band I listen to which you think is pretentious. Then I will put the song up in downloads, if they are 'pretentious' they wont have appear in the top 40 and you can make a judgement yourself.
you are pretentious hazz.fact.;)

Pretentious how?!? When I am as vocal as anyone when it comes in defence of Arctic Monkeys, often 'ripped-apart' by many. When I count The Clash as my favourite band of all-time? When in January I have bought Jamie T, The View, Klaxons and tomorrow, Cold War Kids?

Pretentious is often just people's ignorance that there is other stuff you there which has unfairly been swept aside or never listened to and surely that's been 'cultured'. Instead of listening to the same 'four white lads with guitars stuff'?

Does it really matter who the feck we listen to or not? NO IT BLOODY WELL DOESN'T! We all have our own preferences and opinions, so who cares if Mika sounds like Freddie Mercury? I don't. Listen to what you want, thats all I say. Feck all this 'pretentious' bullshit, it doesn't matter

I think this is half of my probelm with this Mika guy, the stupid comparisons the press have given him (Freddie Mercury?!? I don't like Queen but feck me that's a statement and half, has Mika managed to grip a stadium like Mercury did at Wembley with some charisma) and fecking hype created.

I think you're listening to the mindless people from the radio and clinging on to what they say.

I hear Freddie Mercury in his voice, but it stops there. Freddie was a genius, no one will ever get anyhwhere near him in his genre, in fact, there is no one else in his genre.

So how was it pretentious then? For starters it was on Radio 1, the dance-led Radio station which is supposed to be an indicator of the nation's musical taste. In your opinion, it might be crap but it's not pretentious, not the way you have described it.

So your process is very similar to mine?

You read/listen to a piece of media, make a decision and then buy the record.

I just would not buy an album on the merits of one single.

I would and have done on many occasions. Most albums I've got I didn't even listen to any tracks before buying them.

However, with this album I listened to the sample tracks on his my space before making that decision. You're right, I wouldn't have bought this album on the back of that one track, but it made me think about it.

No, I would never buy an album from a new artist upon reading anybody else's opinion

But you take into account, as your do with people's recommendations in word of mouth. I don't read a review and then, buy the album from that, I have normally listened to the previous singles or demos I can get my hands on.

After all, many have taken into account on your opinion on Vega4, even bought their album on your opinion.

But I can be relied upon :icon_wink
