as much as i'd like to see us play nice passing football, i think milan's just trying to get people excited about next year, hoping for more season ticket sales

we have all heard that before!

though wouldnt it be nice to see that kind of football again,i think the last time we played that style was under mcghee.

with paul aldridge coming from west ham,who have a tradition for good football.

do you think him and milan are probaly concentrating on a manager who plays good football, and if so who do you reckon.

Of course proclaiming this now has nothing to do with the Season Ticket deadline approaching :icon_roll

I tend to agree with Brauny. In the end if you have a team capable of playing well, passing well and showing a bit of vison they will over a season come out better than a team playing "hoof and hope".

Mind, the key word there is capable. I seem to recall that the Pleat team tried to play some pretty stuff, but simply couldn't carry it off. And I suppose that the same is true of long ball football - it can be very effective if you have (a) someone who can aim the long ball to the right place and (b) someone capable of collecting it and using it.

For a start I would settle for getting 75% of passes to one of your own players, which I suppose could be called "passing football" and would be a refreshing change from recent seasons. (I noticed that Capello seemed to have got that message across to his England team the other night). Stage 2 would be a team that understands where its strengths and weaknesses lie and plays accordingly. Stage 3 would be adapting game by game or during a game to the opposition's style, strengths and weaknesses.

Anything beyond that depends on having a sufficient number of players who can rise significantly above the ordinary. I suppose one such would be nice for the time being.

Agree with Brauny and OG and to be fair we have two very capable midfielders already here to do just that in Oakley and Clemence (if we keep them).
Oakley likes to pick the ball up deep and pick a pass building any attack from there which we never did, Clemence is a much better player when it is a passing game and not the sort to go out picking up scraps. As it has been said we did not play to the players strengths.

It would be nice to play a good passing game, and also it would be nice if we are allowed to.
As for Aldridge, he's nothing to do with the footy, he's more involved in pissing off the fans by increasing prices and insisting everyone is seated until it's safe at half time. Ask West Ham. 43 quid last season min.

I like it when Henderson kicks it out a really long way. The best bit is when he doesn't kick it out of play. You can then rely on Howard attempting to get it and fouling someone. That's the best bit, although I like it when it goes out too. I like throw ins too.

Best post I've read ages, You must be a season ticket holder. In fact I think you just proved it, that sums up half our games this season.
