Sorry I know this is a bit of a pointless thread but does any of the older members on here remember a player by the name of Jim or James yates playing for leicester it would have probably been around the seventies?

No player of that name played for the first team.

Steve Yates, mentioned by SJN above, was the cousin of David Nish.

You sure you've not confused the surname then, with something like Melrose?

Is Yates her surname? Is it possible that his surname was something different?

He had a lot more than just big sideburns!

Probably played about 20-30 games for City but played for Southend for years afterwards, clocking up a couple of hundred appearances or more.

This happens loads of times. The oF&F authors frequently have enquiries about people who "used to play for City". Quite often they have to disappoint people, or expose somebody as being untruthful.
 
Talking of pretending to be someone else my daughter met someone in a Sheffield niteclub towards the end of last year who said he was Matty Fryatt!!! and she had a photo taken with him!!

Anyway she said ohh I know about you they sing a song don't they -then went da da da da da da Matty Fryatt. (She knew this cos she'd heard her brother singing it.) Then she mentioned her dad and brother were Leicester fans and it surprised him a bit. :icon_bigg

When she told us this the next day we were a bit surprised but seeing the pics soon realised he was pulling a fast one and we had to tell her it wasn't him!! Anyway he had took her number and text her so she later found out he had been pretending to be Matty cos he knew him but he was a footballer and played for Aston Villa reserves!!! Still not sure he was him either as I can't find him anywhere mentioned on Villa's website. She's since got back with her old boyfriend at Christmas so she's not mentioned him recently.

On a sad note she found out today the company she works for are going bankrupt!!! So she's looking for another job again!

I used to play for Leicester City in the early 1960's.

Well, someone with my name did.
