the west plays by 'the rules' as it writes the rules

Don't kid yourself, only when it suits their purpose.
When money, oil and/or power are concerned, they do exactly whatever the **** they want to do.

Just calls for hasty rewrites, there is still a rulebook but it's a wiki and constantly changing, just wait until the chinese get to grips with being an economic superpower, the old 'rules' won't last long.

Just what do people think we can do? Sanctions would be a waste of time as the country is on it's knees financially already.

Zimbabwe is a land locked country, we would have to pass through 1 or more of Mugabe's allies to invade.

The only people who can effect change in Zimbabwe are the leaders of their African neighbours and they won't because most of them are just as corrupt, brutal and indifferent to the suffering of their fellow Africans as Mugabe

Who gives a rats ass what some petty despot in Africa gets upto? It's not as if he's going to develop nukes and destroy the world and half the population have already left the country to be persecuted in SA and other neighbouring countries.

If the west isn't going to take him out they might as well ignore him.

Perhaps the AU are happy with their cheap, illegal, immigrant workforce.

To protect the financial interest of the USA.

hardly, the US do a good enough job of that

the US veto anything against their desires anyway, the UN is toothless

good post, the west needs to help Africa become more democratic and richer

it could start by stopping all this free trade bollocks and let them do what they want with their own markets
