....Following last nights board meeting, and the lack of credible information coming out of the club at present, I have a few thoughts on what has happened but I must stress this is only my own personal opinion.

1) Although as disappointing as recent results have been Craig may well have been spared as saturdays game vs Norwich was the first signs of fans turning on Levein, this was followed by an away defeat, however there is a very high profile game approaching and a nationwide humilation at the hands of Spurs could lead to a very public humilation for both Craig and the board. A poor performance and result on sunday followed by further chants aimed at CL could still result in Levein being relieved of his duties or further more resigning himself.

2) Prior to the transfer window opening, CL was very bullish about wanting to bring in 2/3 players. Now a only a striker is paramount with other positions being viewed as low priority, which suggests to me that his anticipated budget has been reduced or the board are possibly withholding funds until an upturn in results is shown. Possibly after the Cardiff game.

3) The board have given Levein an ultimatum, I believe he is now in the last chance saloon, and it could be that the board are using that time to actively seek potential replacements and / or are hanging on for a high profile manager to lose his job ie Souness, Moyes or Bruce etc.

I am not saying that this is what has happened but the very fact that there has been no official statement from the board publicly backing the manager says a lot to me. IMO Levein is now on his own the board are slowly shuffling to one side, everybody is aware of this so called meeting last night and the speculation is rife, so if they are so damn keen to support CL why are they so afraid to publicly declare it ?

To be fair to Tim Davis, during his interview with Radio Leicester, he said "I never give votes of confidence" before attempting to get John Barber to back or sack CL.

But bearing in mind the position we are in and the speculation that has been building and the disatisfaction currently being displayed by sections of the supporters, now surely is the time for the board to give an indication that they are fully behind the manager and what he is trying to build.

IMO by not saying anything they are in fact showing that they have doubts themselves otherwise surely they would come out and back him without fear.

Oh yea, Tim davis & co are acting stupidly, Im sure of that - but he did say this was what he was going to do- thats all my point actaully was.;)

sack the board first.

I dont think the spurs game will have any bearing on the situation. We are a bottom 6 championship club facing a top 6 premiership club, nobody realisticlly expects us to win.

I like alot of what you say PF, but the board are not as stupid as most people would make them seem. They are not going to commit to blind faith in CL in much the same way they are not going to tell us if they have given him until the end of the month to turn it round.
CL knows the score and he would not want the added pressure if it was made public that his time is limited. With the stories coming out in the press it seems to me the board are saying enough by giving funds for a striker to try and turn it round, for now CL is staying. Lets just hope that he can pull the right rabbit out of the hat.

I appreciate what you saying NF, what I am trying to say is that I would have more respect for the board if they had the balls to come out and say "we believe Craig Levein's is the right man for the job and whilst short term we are concerned with our position, we have the utmost respect for the manager and we pledge our full support to him ".

But what they have done IMO is left the door ajar for the supporters to still mount an anti Levein campaign and that will be to the detriment of everybody involved with Leicester City, we need everybody pulling in the same direction and last night was the ideal opportunity for the board to unite the supporters, management staff and players for the remainder of the season.

And who would you get to replace them?

People who can run a football club.

And who are these people?
Are they shareholders?
Are they interested in coming to Leicester?
How much money do they want?

When we were in administration it took a lot of effort to get the money in to save the club. Any good businessman who was interested in Leicester would have come forward at that time, and the current board is made up of people who put money in at that time. If someone didn't come forward to help the club then, what makes you think they will now?

I think this 'decision' was probably swung on financial grounds. If CL was at the end of his contract and some of the players that he has signed weren't on 3 years then there is little chance that the board would have asked him to sign again. They would have looked at his record so far and said goodbye. I don't believe that at this stage any other English club would look at him.

Really those at the top have to now back him with all available cash. Seems strange that we are discusing which striker he should bring in as CL has already signed 3 + Dublins new contract, who has also been tried upfront.

As I see it the players are playing with such a lack of confidence that only a top class striker with a proven record can hold his head up through this and get us the goals that we require.

Down to Craig then......

But even if they had pledge thier support to CL you will still have anti CL campaigns from sections of fans, so then surely it is worse as they are directed at the board aswell as they have backed him.
IMO I think some of the faith in CL has been lost by the board and they have given him a final chance and some funds to try and change it. If it then goes wrong they have not publically got egg on thier faces, you have to remember the board are going to be at a club (in most cases) longer than a manager, so they are being careful.
