Anyone know of any potential signings/rumours for next season? I know we've lost Gibson and Dagnall is not coming back. Reckon we need a good quality strike bowler as an overseas player, i know we've got some good youngsters coming through (broad and cummins) but think we need some experience as well. Any names anyone?

Allenby seemed to make plenty of runs in Second XI last year but only got a chance in the Twenty20. Hopefully he'll get a chance next year in the championship.

But, yes, some experience needed to supplement the young batsmen.

Maunders and Allenby have re-signed for next year.

Interesting that Whitaker has already said he wants Robinson and Maunders to open next year. Maddy for the middle order then? Or just a one-day specialist (surely not)?

Maddy had a pretty shocking season last year county championship wise and was probably only his one day form and lack of quality reserve batsmen, that kept him in the team. If Robinson and Maunders are to open, will Tom New play? Possibly bat at 3. Should he play instead of Nixon? I think Nico has one season left contract wise and then maybe it'll be New's time.

I think Tom New did enough at no.3 last year to warrant a starting place. And if he's playing there's no point keeping Nixon in the side IMO.

Maddy hardly bowled last year, perhaps they should slot him in at 7 as an all-rounder. He hasn't scored enough Championship runs for years now, unfortunately.

Mongia has now resigned for next year. Not sure about this really, was hoping for a bigger name.

Mohammad Asif leicestershires new overseas signing for 2006 took 2-14 from 7 overs against England today.

Still think he will struggles on the English pitches.

yes, his signing doesn't fill me with confidence that things will be different in 2006.

although I think it would be impossible to find an overseas bowler less effective than Charl Willougby

As if! :icon_roll :icon_lol:

I see Derbyshire have signed Mohammed Yousuf and Jaques Rudolph for next year :icon_eek:

Im not that happy with our signings to tbh, but think Asif will take a lot more wickets than Willoughby did. Hopefully Mongia will buck his ideas up and score a mount of runs.
It's gonna be a young pace attack next summer, wonder if the club are looking to sign any other seamers.

The yonug pace attack did far better at the end of the summer than the Defreitas- Gibson combo did at the start. Broad, Masters, Cummings and Asif with one other useful county pro will be OK for me rather than load the squad with yet more journeymen. We aren't going to be signing any stars after all.

I would prefer a season of mediocrity with youngsters rather than a season of mediocrity with journeymen.

Absoultely, but I am strangely positive about the new season. Probably because it's the end of December and not the end of April and I've forgotten how inept we were at times during 2005!
