The new 'Prefix' option on talkingballs is a load of shite and is insulting the contributors of the site. I can only imagine the reason it has been added is because Webbo thinks the majority of the posters are a bit thick and can't work out if something is about a new signing or if someone has left the club. Either this or it's a way to stop a certain person starting the pre-match threads properly and continuing to gain applause from fellow fans of the club.

The jury is out, but I say "send the prefix option down - 5 life sentences for such an insult to talkingballers everywhere"

Now watch as this thread is deleted because the signing of 'prefix' meant that something had to leave - this being the 'right of an opinion'.

To be fair, Joe. Webbo isn't alone on this line of thinking.

I added it because it came with the forum upgrade.

I decided to see how it works and if it's any good. Anything that helps people use more appropriate thread titles can only be a good thing.
I made each prefix a different colour to see if it helps people find the things they want to find.

And please stop going on about the pre match bollocks. If you start another one when there's one that already exist, I'll just delete it.

In that case folks, I guess it is up to all of us to ensure that Joe and Joe alone posts the first of the pre-match threads in future.

When you are looking in some of the menus it will say just "West Brom" so you don't know if it's the pre match, match, or post match thread. The Who's Online menu being one example

What are the other examples?

One of the things the prefixes might help with is searching. When you use the advanced search you can select to search threads only with certain prefixes.

You can also use the drop down box at the bottom of the forum display page to just show threads with a certain prefix. For example http://www.talkingballs.co.uk/forum...fixid=3&sort=lastpost&order=desc&daysprune=-1 to just look at post match threads.

But he'll leave it too late, so someone else will start it. Then Joe_ will claim that it's unlucky to start it early, even though he himself has usually started it earlier.

While I don't mind the banter that goes with someone being 'lucky' starting these threads, it is really a load of bollocks and we shouldn't inconvenience people just so one person can start the thread.

TBH, I don't care. I was just pointing it out. I don't care what threads they're on.

And I'm sure everybody realises that - including Joe_ and the others who have used it as an excuse just to make some 'noise'.

The prefixes are a useful addition, although I'm still not sure that they need to come in a range of colours. The colours can in fact make it difficult to distinguish them from the thread title when IE alters the latter in accordance with its protocol for 'already read' links etc.

I'm not sure that I would be worried about the prefixes not appearing on the 'Who's online' page. In fact I find it quite disturbing that anybody should want to find out what other people are reading, so whether the prefixes are there or not is of no import.

Does that apply to my underpants as well? I'm wearing the same ones as yesterday and will be doing so against Hull next Saturday.

Unless it really is all bollox of course :icon_wink

I like the idea in general of the prefixes but was just about to start a thread on the colours. Maybe I'm partially colour blind but as I'm scanning down the page I find it very difficult now to distinguish un-read thread as the colours are bold the same and unread. I know the icon shows me aswell but it is very confusing.

Webbo, I'm not a particularly superstitious person although when LCFC look doomed, I become extremely superstitious and will pull out all the stops to ensure I do everything possible to ensure LCFC win. Hence the correct formatting for the West Brom Pre-match thread. And it worked a treat (prove that it didn't).

londonfox started the thread - City won.

Give it up, Joe.
