Mike Newell is set to sensationally walk out on Luton to take over at Premiership surprise package Wigan Athletic.
Newell has recently been linked with the vacant Leicester manager's job, but the Scouser would favour a return to his native North West.
Current Wigan manager Paul Jewell looks almost certain to replace Graeme Souness at Newcastle United. Magpies chairman Freddie Shepherd contacted his Wigan counterpart Dave Whelan this morning to request permission to speak to Jewell, and Whelan has said he won't stand in Jewell's way. The two clubs are currently discussing a compensation package, with Jewell expected to be unveilled at St James' Park tomorrow morning.
If Newell does take over at Wigan it would complete a remarkable rise through the divisions for a man who was sacked by Hartlepool less than three years ago.
