Can we have @homer’s usual thread? I had a full list of 923 within minutes of hearing the news this morning.

Also I want to know more about this “The Irishman” the article mentions. Is that a stage name like professional wrestlers have? Who is he really? Did he ever work in TNA or Ring of Honor?

Oh maaahhh gaaawwwd! It the Irishman!!!!! He is the third man Nash and Rashid Ramon were talking about!!!

I'd take Rodgers.

He'll raise the profile of the club which staggeringly still seems quite high in the media from what I've read today.

The national media genuinely see us as the best of the rest with the potential to even improve on that, which despite some of our fans thoughts is bang on.

He also uses young players a lot, which as we've repeatedly been told by some, means he's ****ing brilliant at being a manager.

He'd also get benkovic straight into the side.

it would also be nice to **** Celtic fans off and enjoy a bit of payback.

hes a bit weird I suppose, but I don't mind if he gets caught dogging in the Charnwood countryside as long as we have some pride and ambition back.

Tony Cottee says:

"Maybe get someone in on an interim basis. Off the top of my head, someone like Harry Redknapp for example, someone who is a good, experienced manager that can get a few results"

Tony Cottee can **** right off.

Harry wheeling and dealing while the transfer window is shut would be interesting.

I think it’ll be Rogers who gets it. He’s probably the best we can expect TBF.

His reaction to being asked about the job today tells me that he'd come in the summer if we wanted him. The issue is whether there is genuine interest from our end or whether it is his agent trying to link us with him.

The journalist Alan Nixon has been planting stories about us and Rodgers for ages now, which have clearly come from the Rodgers camp. Today, he said again that he expects us to go for Rodgers.

So, I'm not sure whether we are interested in him or not. I'm also a bit wobbly on Rodgers agent/representatives touting him to us whilst he's in a job. To me, it backs up the view that he's got an ego the size of Jupiter. Also, is it genuine or is he using us as a method of trying to get more money out of Celtic?

The links we have to Wagner and Benitez are much more solid. According to people that know (local media people that have repeatedly said this as fact), we had both on our shortlists when Ranieri left and in the summer. Both effectively wouldn't leave their jobs for us which I take as a mark of respect and integrity.

So, in the summer, we will have the choice of all three (along with several other good candidates). Of those, I think Wagner has removed himself from consideration by his failure and meltdown at Huddersfield. It makes him a risk that we cannot afford to make. Remember that we've already mortgaged our TV money for the next two seasons against the training ground. We cannot risk relegation.

If Benitez doesn't renew his contract, he'll be our first choice in my opinion. However, I wonder whether he'd not want to leave Newcastle and remain in the same league as them. He has a very strong ethic. Maybe if he leaves, he'll want to work in another country.

Rogers ego is the thing that makes me think he's a better option than Puel. He would love to win stuff to satisfy that ego, Puel didn't have that desire. I don't feel comfortable that he may only join in the summer as he's pissing about.

My guess is that we will unfortunately probably end up with a caretaker until the end of the season, with a view to making a permanent hire then - presumably Rodgers.

The problem is we haven't really got any suitable caretakers available. No club legends currently working as high profile coaches to step in and get the good vibe lift that Man Utd currently have with OGS. No obvious choice inside the club like when we had Shakey take caretaker charge (absolutely right choice as caretaker, just not as a permanent manager).

I don't think Stowell in all the time he's been here and the amount of managers he's seen off has actually stepped in as caretaker at any point?

Can't see it being Stowell until the end of the season which makes me wonder who else they could get as a short term fix. My only thought would be an old duffer currently out of work. Like a Big Sam or a Pardew etc. Which I'd hate to see.

I admit that getting in another French coach may not be a popular choice, but how about Guion at Reims?
Got them promoted to Ligue 1 last year, and has them sat in sixth place now. Used to be their youth team coach, so can develop players, and plays a high pressure direct attacking style. He's also a 'metal preparation' specialist who is all for a pizza day.
