Kante Signs

The second addition to Antonio Conte’s squad for the coming season has been completed. N’Golo Kante is a Chelsea player.

Following on from the signing of Michy Batshuayi from the French League, Kante joins from Premier League Leicester City, where he so memorably played a major part in the Foxes’ championship triumph last season.

The 25-year-old came close to adding to that success on the international stage earlier this month. He was part of the France squad that was denied a host-team triumph at Euro 2016 by an extra-time Portugal goal in the final.

After signing a five-year contract, Kante said: ‘I am so happy to have signed for one of the biggest clubs in Europe. It’s a dream come true for me.

‘The opportunity to work with Antonio Conte, a brilliant coach, and some of the best players in the world was simply too good to turn down.

‘My first season in English football was very special and now I hope to go on to achieve even more during my time as a Chelsea player. I am looking forward to meeting up with my new team-mates and helping the club achieve a lot of success.’

Chelsea Football Club technical director Michael Emenalo added: ‘N’Golo is a fantastic signing ahead of the new season and we are delighted to have been able to bring such a talented player to the club.

‘He is a perfect fit in terms of Antonio Conte’s philosophies and the style of football he wants to play.

‘For a player of his age he has already built up a wealth of experience and his exceptional quality will without doubt be a great addition to the team.’

The midfielder was the first signing made after Claudio Ranieri became Leicester manager last summer.

What followed is well-known throughout the world of football as Kante’s ability to win possession of the ball and retain it, and to power his team forward marked him out as the best transfer of the year in many people’s eyes.

He played in all but one of the league games in Leicester’s title win and made the Premier League’s most number of tackles and interceptions. He was named in the PFA Team of the Year.

The France national team came calling in March of this year. Kante impressed and made the starting line-up for the opening game of Euro 2016 when the hosts took on Romania. His figures for passing, tacking and intercepting in that match were again unsurpassed and he supplied the ball for Dmitri Payet to strike a spectacular late winner.

He was suspended for the quarter-final win over Iceland and began the semi-final and final on the bench. He came on in the first of those games against Germany but although many were calling for his introduction as the French midfield laboured against Portugal, he remained an unused substitute in the competition’s decider.

Chelsea is the fourth professional club of Kante's career. A Parisian by birth, he played for his local amateur side Suresnes until the age of 19 when he moved north and joined Boulogne.

Kante’s performances for Boulogne in 2012/13, when they were in the French third tier, caught the eye of Caen in the division above, and he helped power the Normandy club to promotion to Ligue 1 in his first season there. He played every game.

Following a second season with Caen he joined Leicester City.

Kante comes to Chelsea with a Premier League winners’ medal and eight international caps to his name.

Bye, bye, N'Golo. Thanks for the memories and winning the League for us.

Good luck NG hope this ends up being what you wanted.

Out of Vardy/Mahrez/Kante he was the one I most expected to leave. Just saddened that it is to another Prem team.

A truly special player.

Sad. I wouldn't have begrudged him a move back to France, but going to Chelsea feels bad.

Thanks for last season. I hope you have an absolutely nothing season this year.

Thanks for the memories N'Golo. The greatest player I've ever seen in a Leicester shirt.

What a shame we haven't been able to keep the team together for one more year. Thanks N'Golo, you will go down as a legend (as will all the players from last season really) but wish you could have just been a bit more ambitious with Leicester.

Looking forwards, I'm sure we can adapt and still be successful. Be nice to get a similar player who actually scores more than one goal a season.

Bye Kante.

Can't say I understand the decision to move to Chelsea though. Money? London? Bigger club? Future potential trophies?

Why not stay another season. Play some champions league football, take the 100k a week and leave next summer?

The annoyed part of me wants him to fail. The sensible part wishes him luck and onwards and upwards.

The upside of this, is that it will be easier to fullfil the FFP rules

For gods sake don't look at Foxestalk. I just had a sneaky peek to see what the reaction was...

I hope he has a stinking season, why would you want anything else for a direct rival?

He clearly didn't think twice about moving to a mid table non European playing side over playing for us so I have no wish for him to succeed at Chelsea.

Thanks for last season, shame you have zero emotional or , ore meaningful connection with the club.

Chelsea, try doing some actual scouting of your own you astonishingly obvious plastics.

They failed in thier job as they obviously didn't give him and his family enough grief on Twitter

A move to Chelsea can only be about money. He's been linked to genuinely big clubs who are playing in the CL yet he's jumped to go there. I'd have wished him well at a lot of clubs but definitely not this one.

Not at all surprised by this after his reluctance to join us last summer. Wish him the best but don't really understand the logic of joining Chelsea compared to some of the other reported suitors.

Can it? I'm not sure about you but I don't know what we offered him compared to what Chelsea offered him.

Maybe he isn't convinced we will replicate last season, and wants to be contending for the Premier League and Champions League year on year out. Last year being the exception.

welcine to a guaranteed starting spot on opening day Mr. Mendy. Time to show everyone why you were our first-choice central midfield signing ahead of Kante last season.

I agree with Lako - Schlupp is shi........ no I mean I too do not wish him well. I hope he and Chelsea have a poor season. Not cos I'm angry that they signed, they're entitled to, but I hope all of the "top" teams have poor seasons.

We'll be fine without him. He was a great player for us but the collective was and is our strength.

A move to Chelsea can only be about money.

We offered him £100k a week before he left for the Euros. That's £5 million a year for 4 years.

Chelsea are paying him £7.5 million a year over 5 years.

How much more purchasing power does that get him? How many cars can you drive at the same time?

What can you buy for £35 million that you can't buy for £20 million? Absolutely nothing.
