With Euro 2004, and France vs England almost here, we know it's always customary for the opposition to slate England in the media...but does it have to be so personal?
Of course they might have been encouraged by this quote from Euro 2000 which surfaced again:
We're so fashionable
(move this to Euro 2004 if you think it's in the wrong place)
Henry (about Rooney) said:"He does it even more when he plays for England, and it should be more difficult. You would think he would score five goals, with respect, against Leciester City in the Premiership, but he doesn't - he scores a couple for England instead."
Pires (about our home-grown tallent) said:"There are two or three premiership teams who dominate the premiership. They have a fix of home players and foreign players"
"Clubs such as Leicester and Portsmouth do no not have this luxury"
Of course they might have been encouraged by this quote from Euro 2000 which surfaced again:
Southgate (about 4-4-2) said:Overall we were too predictable," he recalls. "We played a rigid 4-4-2 and stuck to a classic English game which might have been OK in the Premiership but wasn't varied enough for a European Championship...At times you felt we might have been mistaken for Leicester City."
