Excuse my ignorance and yes I know its difficult but could it not be the BT line.i had a problem with mine and BT came out and said the line was fine..I have it now on good authority that the line was far from perfect and BT were bullshitting me.

Im on NTL but once i have purchased a new ethernet cable my next port of call will be NTL themselves and now their IT helpline is 25p per min :icon_eek:
i need to rule out all the possiblities.

Waste of time that help-line, all it is is someone on the other side of the world that you can hardly understand just reading the same information that you can get off the website.

I may be wrong, but if it was a problem with the ethernet cable, then it would either work or it wouldn't full stop.

It could be the strength of the signal that you are receiving that is the problem, our internet used to be very slow and we had a tech person come round to test the signal and the fitted a device to the modem that I presume is a signal booster or something similar.

Also, is the computer connected directly to the modem or do you have a wireless router or switch as this may be the problem.
