Normally wash my hair on Sunday, but seeing as it has all gone now I might just come along!

Was the pub named after the football team?

Of course it was. Sheffield Wednesday were named in the late 19th century - the pub wasn't built until many years after that so could not have been named before the football team.

But Oadby Owls weren't.

So you could be right. The pub might have been named before the football club!

And what about the Oadby Owls that play in the Alliance Football League and were apparently formed in 2005. Are they the same Oadby Owls? They appear to play at a different place!. Who are they named after?

As I previously knew the manager's son, it's not the same Oadby Owls. Oadby Owls is strictly a junior club, these bunch of lads left Oadby Owls at Under-something level and went to play Sunday morning stuff but kept the same name. Obiviously Oadby Owls must have ok'ed cos I am aware of a team which had to stick Old Boys at the end of the name to distance themselves from the junior set-up. Plus I bet county fa don't like sorting out the affliation forms at the start of the season with two teams of the same name.

Hi all,

I don't contribute much to TB - prefer to watch what's going on. However had to join in this as when I was a kid I played for Lansdowne GEC who then became part of Oadby Owls. This was back in about '86.

I left soon after as it didn't feel right being a Wigston lad playing for Oadby!

Sorry won't be joining you at the game but will be there in spirit!

Regards, CDS Fox
