...according to the Mercury:

Now come and get me - Norris

by Bill Anderson

Leicester City transfer target David Norris has made an apparent “come and get me” move by handing in a transfer request at Plymouth Argyle.

The 26-year-old midfielder was one of a group of his former players about whom City boss Ian Holloway made inquiries.

But Argyle's acrimonious reaction prompted Holloway to say he would leave Home Park alone for the time being.

However, the Devon club's attitude softened with Barry Hayles rejoining Holloway when the transfer window opened and now Norris could follow.

City are understood to have offered £1.5million initially for the Stamford-born player, and with this latest development they might get him for less.

Norris is known to be a big fan of Holloway and his methods and, from the early targeting of him by the City boss, the feeling seems to be mutual.

Holloway never comments on transfer targets but City are now bound to resurrect their interest following Norris' actions, and negotiations could be opened soon.

In any event, the City boss is relishing the position he finds himself in right now, a manager looking to buy rather than sell, as he has had to do at all his other clubs.

Holloway said: “I have had to be selling players for millions but only buying them for hundreds of thousands.

“I could never have dreamed of making a signing like Steve Howard for a million pounds or so before.

“We are trying to build here and other players can see that and might want to be part of it.”

Second bid made for Norris while McAuley remains firmly in boss' sights
Fri 18 Jan 08

Ipswich Town manager Jim Magilton revealed this morning that he put in a second bid for midfielder David Norris last night and will put in another offer for Leicester City's Gareth McAuley before the end of the transfer window.

Town are still awaiting an answer from Plymouth in regard to Norris but Magilton admitted that he fears that fan power down in Devon may be a factor in the Pilgrims' decision making.

The Home Park faithful have already seen the likes of Akos Buzsaky, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Dan Gosling leave this month and the prospect of losing Norris is causing a sense of dismay at the Championship club.

Norris' father revealed this morning there have not been any talks over a new deal at Plymouth but Magilton believes manager Paul Sturrock is desperate to hold on to the former Bolton man.

However, the Blues boss is determined to get his man and is optimistic a deal can be done before January 31.

"We have made a second offer for David Norris and they're up in arms down in Plymouth," he said. "Fan power is playing a big part in this and I understand that.

"They don't want one of their best players to leave and we're wary of that situation but we are determined to get him.

"I don't think it's the player holding things up – I think it's the club. In all honesty I don't think the club want to sell but we have made a good offer again and we are hopeful we can get the deal done."

With less than two weeks until the window slams shut Magilton knows he doesn't have any time to waste but insists he will know the moment he has to start working down his shopping list.

"I haven't got a deadline at the moment but it's getting close to that," he admitted. "We've got other irons in the fire and I can't keep them hanging on."

Despite having an offer in excess of £600,000 rejected by Leicester last week for Gareth McAuley, Magilton will go back in with another offer over the coming days.

The defender is understood to be disillusioned at the Walkers Stadium at the wages he is on compared to the new arrivals there and Magilton is looking to swoop.

"I probably will go back in for McAuley," he said. "We have identified three or four targets and we would love to have got them all done and dusted and out of the way. But it takes patience.

"At the end of the day these teams do not want to lose good players and until they get replacements in they are not going to shift. We just have to play a waiting game to see how it goes.

"I don't think we've gone the full hog just yet but if we do and we get knocked back then we move on. We've got other people waiting in the wings."

Magilton also said that the club are still waiting on an answer to another bid made more than two weeks ago. It is understood the selling club are waiting to see if they can get in a replacement before contemplating letting the player go
