Story in the Sun today about one of our former players Mike Galloway trying to cut his own leg off after his wife left him.
He used to be a bit of a hard man - I remember him doing a great job winding Duncan Ferguson up one game.

OMG.... He was a cult hero. Poor bloke, do you know if it's because something was actually wrong with the leg. He was in that really bad crash so i'm wondering if he actually had much use of the limb???!?!

Perhaps it was wooden...

Good grief!! I thought he was a great player for us for the small amount of time he was here!!!

What a strange thing to try and do.

I remember he whipped a blinding cross in at Coventry when we drew 2-2. I literally couldn't see for a week it was that blinding.

Hope the leg is ok Mike.

That was actually the last of his too few games for City.

Galloway's career and life has been littered with tragedy and now this.

I can't see anything about it on The Sun website. I presume that you are in Caledonia and therefore reading their own edition of The Sun. I'm sure that you know that a certain person of my acquaintance would be pleased to have the whole story if you could make it available to him on your return.

Maybe he said, he would give an arm and a leg for his wife to leave him

perhaps he wanted to get legless after losing his missus

You must have been watching in royal blue-tinted specs. We lost that game 4-2.

I think you must be right, Durham.

It is said that this bloke came to City's attention as a teenager but was turned down on the grounds that he was too small. He finally got to City on loan about 15 years later (1995) but did his hamstring in training on his very first day.

Having been turned down by City as a youngster, he played a good many years in lower leagues before signing for Hearts where he starred as a goalscorer in a European campaign and later for Celtic where he got both U21 (as an over-age player) and Full international caps.

Anyway back to 1995 and having recovered from the hamstring, his loan spell was extended. Webbo and Joe have already mentioned that he played against Everton and Cov - the game that I remember he played in was the 4-4 draw at Villa Park. The weather was absolutely awful and we managed to salvage a point even though we were 4-1 down with only 13 minutes to go. That day was the second time that we got to call Brian Little JUDAS!!

Mike succumbed to injury again and I remember meeting him in the street outside QPR on the day of Heskey's debut. It was said that City were going to sign him permanently but his injuries meant that temporary contracts were all that got offered. Portsmouth also offered him a loan deal but before he could take it up he was almost killed in a horrific crash at Dunton Bassett. He was critically ill in hospital in Leicester for what seemed like an age but finally recovered. I seem to remember that he got married soon after coming out of hospital.

Mike never did play first-class football again but has managed at least a couple of Scottish junior sides since then. There was a story about him losing his driving licence but i can't remember the details, so I won't speculate. It does seem posssible though that you might lose your licence and decide to chop your leg off for much the same reason.

As I said, tragic!
