probably a bit tacky brauny after you viewing triple f mamas.com again :roll:

I've made a spreadsheet in which each entry has three columns for the corresponding local variables: 1 for the home score, one for the away score and one for the points gained (0,1 or 2)

There are two global variables in two columns as well: actual home score and actual away score.

To work out the points awarded for the prediction made I have come up with this formula (based around the key shown)

B2=actual home score
C2=actual away score
D2=predicted home score
E2=predicted away score

Here is the formula:

=IF(AND(D2=$B$2,E2=$C$2),3,IF(AND(D2=E2,$B$2=$C$2),1,IF(AND(D2=$B$2,E2>D2),1,IF(AND(E2=$C$2,D2>E2),1,IF(AND(D2>$B$2,E2>$C$2),1,IF(AND(D2=$B$2,E2<$C$2),0,IF(AND(D2=$B$2,E2>$C$2),0,0)))))))

I've tested all the possible deviations in the score line and it seems to be working well although I'm sure there is a shorter formula that does the same job.

Any ideas?

I think this does the same:

=IF(AND(B2=D2,C2=E2),3,IF(AND(B2>C2,D2>E2),1,IF(AND(B2=C2,D2=E2,B2>D2),1,IF(AND(B2=C2,D2=E2,B2<D2),1,0))))

N.B. $ to be added.

I had an idea.

I thought that I may do a photography book, detailing on one page my day's diet and mirroring that with subsequent poos.

I was going to call it 'Eat Shit'.

Ok, both of the previous have flaws.

This is the correct one:

=IF(AND(B2=D2,C2=E2),3,IF(AND(B2>C2,D2>E2),1,IF(AND(B2<C2,D2<E2),1,IF(AND(B2=C2,D2=E2,B2>D2),1,IF(AND(B2=C2,D2=E2,B2<D2),1,0)))))

Joe Fox - most boring post of 2005 1st, second and third well done :wink:

I am not sure what you are trying to do. :roll: :-( :-( :? :? Applying this formula to any cell always yields the answer 3. :roll: :-( :-( :eek:
