Pressman 4.5 (To make 1 mistake is unfortunate, 2 is careless, but 3 is beyond belief!)
Canero 6.5
Heath 7
Dabizas 5 Thinks he is better than he actually is!
Tiatto 6
Gillespie 6.5 can see the confidence coming back.
Nalis 6 Too many wayward passes
Gudjohnson 6 close with a shot, bit lightweight at times
Stewart 6 Didn't offer enough width. Crossing was inconsistent (again!)
Scowcroft 7.5 won most in air, some good link up play with connolly in first half, unlucky with header
Connolly 6 I'm beginning to wonder whether he is just unlucky or cack.
Morris 6.5 Willing to run at players. Just got to remember to take the ball with him when he does!!!

Overall, we did try to play football at times but were guilty of some woeful passing. Needs ironing out Craig. Played for 90 minutes and heads didn't go down at 0-1. Time for a replacement for the pieman. He can make some cracking saves, but if you can't do the basics (ala Preston, crewe and today....)

CL 7 Tried to keep the tempo throughout the game. Bringing on Dublin, going 3 at the back was good to see. Might as well lose 2 - 0 as 1 - 0.

Sunderland fans 0. Worst minutes silence observed by away fans for a long time. Hope they had a long journey home, disrepectful ba#####s

Stewart 6 Didn't offer enough width. Crossing was inconsistent (again!)

I thought Stewart was our best player today.

Defensively he did nothing wrong, and twice made goal saving tackles when covering for a team mate's mistake.
He got forward a lot more than you'd expect for a full back, and was always available for the ball.
His crossing was inconsistent - but isn't that always the case with any wide player outside the top Premiership clubs?

Stewart did really well today... remember someone saying wish he would head the ball on here on some other thread... he certainly did that today... defended very well...
good effort all round i think... even tho Dabizas gave away too many needless fouls, and with all the chances, Connolly really should have converted at least one... but u can't ask for more, they all gave their best shot

Pressman - 4 - a couple of good saves but is nothing more than a shot stopper. A long-shot almost slipped under him, he got nowhere near the ball for their goal and seems to take an age to stoop down to collect a ball.

Canero - 6 - made one bad mistake when he presented the ball to Elliott to hit the side netting with but otherwise was solid, better going forward than Makin is... doesn't have very good link-up with Morris though that's to be expected I suppose.

Heath - 6 - generally good but should stop back-passing mindlessly, won some good headers and had a nice chance on target but needs to work on his passing.

Dabizas - 4 - the only player that seems sure we still play hoof-ball, he is still continuously fouling other players and gave away a few balls in dangerous situations.

Stewart - 8 - MOTM, floated in a couple of easy set pieces but otherwise was excellent. Made a few crucial tackles at the back to save certain goals, a few brilliant clearances and when swapping with Tiatto (who he links up well with) got forward well and used his pace to great effect.

Gillespie - 6 - went on a fantastic weaving run in the first half but was fouled and afterwards never seemed the same. Got in a couple of crosses but still doesn't beat his man most of the time, attitude has definitely improved though, he won a lot of headers and chased after players with the ball though rarely won it back.

Nalis - 5 - got a run through clear on goal but stepped on the ball, misplaced passes frequently.... however he still tried very hard, and offered something going forward, just seemed off the pace today.

Gudjonsson - 5 - almost managed to kick the ball out of the stadium in the first half, didn't offer much going forward but got stuck into the midfield, became anonymous in the second half and was rightly substituted.

Tiatto - 6 - gave the ball away a couple of times with sloppy passes but otherwise was good, linked up well with Stewart and got some good crosses in (especially one in the first half when he was falling as he crossed it). Needless booking again.

Connolly - 6 - sent one shot wide and hit the post from close range (even though he was offside), his build-up play is good and he's not afraid to go searching for the ball, but I'm still not convinced he's a natural finisher.

Scowcroft - 7 - acrobatic chance in the first half, great header in the second, as usual won everything in the air, seemed to slip back onto the right wing a bit but also went on a run there, link-up play with Connolly is good but other than those two chances did not have many attacks on goal.

Subs:

Morris - 5 - ran around a lot, had nothing defensively and often tried to mark the same player as someone else while leaving players around free to pass to, fought his way into the box a couple of times but seemed a little clumsy... got in one really good cross.

Gemmill - 4 - poor, misplaced passes, put one good pass in that set up a chance but otherwise I can't see a point in keeping him.

Dublin - 3 - fell over comically in the box, got a couple of headers but only once the ball had bounced in front of him, not really acting like a player with something to prove.

Dabizas was not that bad he didnt foul the player often at all, the ref was wrong on many occasions and i thought he put some excellent tacled in down by the kop. worked hard and look like he was trying.

Dabizas was not that bad

He defended better than we're used to...but his passing was awful, he gave it away far too often.
The same could be said of a lot of our players though - how many times did we play cross field passes that were under hit, giving possession away?
But at least they're trying to pass the ball, and when it comes off it's much better than hoofing.

Pressman 5 - He was only meant to be emergency cover, not a regular
Canero 6 - Improvement on Coventry display
Dabizas 4 - His form is so eratic,
Heath 8 - Deserves a better central partner
Stewart 8 Attacked and defended well, support him
Gillespie 7 Did well until kicked out of the game
Gudjonsson 5 Probably does loads of work that I'm tactically naive not to notice
Nalis 7 Tried hard but it was a tough game in midfield where he needed but didn't get support
Tiatto 5 Ran around a lot but never really got anywhere
Scowcroft 5 Their defence had his measure all afternoon
Connolly 4 Their defence didn't need to worry about him, it meant they could put two on Scowcroft

Dublin 3 1 point for finding the car park, 1 point for finding the changing rooms and 1 point for nearly getting us a penalty (maybe we change the strip to red shirts to get penalties?)
Gemmill 5 I think it's bye bye Mr Gemmill
Morris 5 - Sorry I don't remember him doing anything when he came on

Aftermatch McEwans Champion Ale 9.5

Sunderland were a hard team playing text book away game tactics, Breen wound up our players causing them to underperform and should have been sent off for the provocation with Nalis
The main problem was the strikers never looked like troubling Sunderland and their goalkeeper, (can't be bothered to get the programme to spell his name correctly) was outstanding
Anyway looking forward to the next one there is hope

Reading this thread has made me feel a bit better. It seems that against a lesser team we would have romped home (ala Coventry) but alas Sunderland grabbed the vital goal and stole the 3 points. On to the next game then, let's win that one.

Is Tiatto still playing for Australia?only they play tomorrow(on Sky)and the last thing we need is him picking up an injury.

Not sure to be honest but we shouldn't worry too much. Surely playing for your national team can only help your game.

Yeah, but DT is hardly the type who will 'hold back' because its a friendly.
