I'm neither concerned about an inability to put chances away (it could easily be a bit of rust which needs shaking off over pre-season), nor impressed by a draw with Mallorca (who are a half decent outfit, but nothing more). Far too early to be making any kind of judgement.

What a ridiculous post. You must make a snap judgement based on a game you didn't see, right now! Top or bottom, which is it going to be? There is no in between! (Okay well there obviously is an inbetween, but not for us! 1st or 24th are the only options!)

without overreacting too much as it is a pre season friendly it did sound like a familiar story- play nice football, concede a sloppy goal, and waste decent chances.

With that sort of a summary, I could almost believe you were at the match. Gallagher's miss early on when a long clearance evaded all the defence was just careless; I'm not even sure how he managed to hit the bar from such a narrow angle and so close in.

Nugent had three chances in the first half but shot wildly each time. Vassell had some good runs and was popular with the locals. St Ledger looked strong at the back for a little 'un.

Midfield seems to be a different shape from last season; Danns, Wellens and King occasionally seemed uncertain where they should be and where the other two were - but that's what pre-season practice games are for.

The Mallorca goal came after Schmeichel spilled a shot that didn't seem too difficult; an easy finish that put us behind. SSL taken down on the edge of the box on the far side of the pitch when there was no threat; Gallagher did the usual back-to-goalkeeper routine with the usual result.

Refereeing was not strict as the game was allowed to flow but when it came to offences where a card could be justified, the ref did not delay. I can't remember Danns' first offence but the second was a case of leaving his foot in when he could easily have got it out of the way. All 6 offences were strictly yellow card offences - but this was a friendly without a single act of malice - the ref must have been very proud to have it finish 10-a-side.

Man-of-the-match award went to Gallagher. Not sure why but I suppose he did score the goal.

If the same old story means we'd be drawing 1-1 to teams of Mallorca quality, while not at home, then I'd be more than happy with that.

Don't forget that Mallorca weren't at home either.

Danns says on his twitter it don't count so ha!

You write as though Danns is the authority on this kind of thing. You might be advised to remember that 72.3% of players in the Football League don't even know the hand-ball rule (and 99% of all statistics are made up on the spot), before asserting anything that you are told by Neil Danns (or any other player). What happens can not be certain because so many people have authority on the matter; perhaps the ref won't even bother to report the sendings-off - but nothing can be certain on the matter.

Up to the digression of the governing bodies (not sure which one, the football league?) iirc, Rooney was banned for a league match for a red card in a friendly a few years back, but generally they are not.

Bloody spill-chuckers, eh? But you're exactly right. The ref may or may not report the matter to his governing body; if he does, his governing body may not pass the report on to the FA; if they do, the FA might choose to do nothing about it. There is not as much kudos involved in banning Neil Danns of Leicester City as there as in doing the same thing to Wayne Rooney of ManchesterFuckingUnited. I think he'll probably get away with it.

I just assumed that he would have been informed before making such a statement thats all.

How did Konchesky look boc? they were saying he was MOTM on RL

How did Konchesky look boc?

He's still as bald as a coot.

I would have found it impossible to pick a man-of-the-match from tonight's match - and I'd be interested to know what they based the award on. There needs to be a bit of competition in the game too make such things valid and clearly neither team were there to do any more than start the ball rolling again after the summer break. Konchelski played his part in a back four that I think we will see play together quite a bit this season - and we only conceded after a daft mistake by the keeper. Make of that what you will - I could separate anybody out - but he did OK.

Ref might have told him that he doesn't intend to report it. On the other hand, Danns may be guessing. If I get a chance I'll ask him tomorrow.

Get some kip while you can - Notts is on his way :081:

Just been speaking to him. He's reached Ely. We've realised that he and BM will overlap by about 15 minutes at Stansted before BM has to catch his coach.

Will Notts have reached Sweden by the time BM has changed at Wrexham

Just heard from Notts. Apparently he's on his way to Swindon. The daft fecker really needs to listen more carefully.
