Got this last night when I turned my console - it had worked fine 2 hours earlier :icon_sad: According to Microsoft, its out of warranty-however I had this problem in June 2007 so as there is a 3 year warranty for the ring of death does this start from the last repair? Or is it only the original purchase date? Also any idea of the cost if I do have to pay? I've emailed them and still waiting on a reply, and the website hasn't proved very helpful so far-they don't want to tell me how much its going to cost until I give my payment details!!

Good old XBox

If its out of warranty don't bother repairing it, sell it on ebay as spares or repair and try and get a new one with the very latest chip.

I tried repairing mine, it works for a while then just packs up again.

Were you playing Modern Warfare 2 per chance?

Normally get this the morning after a few beers and a chilli garlic chicken madras.

I read somewhere they will fix it for free outside of warranty, I think I posted the link elsewhere on here but can't find it.

Nah, haven't got that. All I've been playing really is Beatles Rock Band & Fifa 10

Poxy ****ing Xbox.

Mine has had the equally annoying disc read error which is something to do with the DVD reader being jiggered after just 6 months of having it. This renders it totally unusable and I can't afford to get it fixed at the minute. Seems like there's so much that can go wrong with these consoles.

Get a PS3, I will be playing on mine tonight, as it's not shite.

May well do that when I've finished spending all my money on driving lessons. I'm utterly pissed off with the Xbox, it's just been gathering dust for the last 4 months.

Got the RROD a month ago, and, like you, had already sent my Xbox back previously. They told me that the warranty starts again for the 3 years, so the easiest way to do things is go to the Xbox website, register it for repair and ship it off via the free UPS they send.

They're (alledgedly) very busy at the moment, so sent me a brand new one, and I know the same has happened to quite a few people.

Overall took about 10 days which is pretty quick to get it to Germany and back!

The 360 arcade drops to £114.99 tomorrow but the elite goes up to £199.99, so if you remove the hard drive you can get a bargain console from tomorrow.

Did you get a warranty from the shop you bought it in? Always worth considering cos if xbox **** you about you can return it there and get a new one (latest version) immediately -without filling in any paperwork.

I got an automated response, but basically they told me its going to cost me 68 quid + vat. I'm almost tempted just to get an arcade console but some questions first (I know the first two are pretty obvious but I wanted to check!)

1) will i be able to just attach my harddrive from old console to it
2) will i be able to log onto my xbox live accoun
3) Are the newer consoles less likely to have this problem or not?

Also what is the real significant difference between an elite and a arcade apart from the massive hard drive (which i don't really need!)?
