star wars? wasn't that made in the 80's?

i think i was about 7, not sure where i was. i remember watching it though. might have been at home. my dad went, never took us though. b*stard.

he also went to the middlesbrough cup finals. he wasn't allowed into hilsborough though cos he was too drunk aparantly, he spent the whole day in a police cell. they let him know the score after claridge's winner. they let him aout about midnight and he had to hitch a ride home on a coach full of asians. i'll never forget that story.

It won't happen. The angle of Leicesters ground is too much to allow standing. I read this in a TD interview somewhere.

When that great^ idea of the groundshare with the Tigers was being discussed, it was suggested that standing areas would be erected for the Tigers fans then removed for City games. I think it was also suggested that if we were not in the prem then the capacity would be reduced to allow the standing areas to remain.
So it would not be too bigger job.

The only reason people want standing back is for lower prices.

I stood for years, and I cannot see what is so good about it. Surges, losing your mates, trying to stay on your feet when we scored......

Brilliant. Those days were brilliant.

However...time to move on. This is the 21st century and we don't want another Hilssborough. Thats the reason it will never be bought back. End of story.

Another Hillsborough wouldn't happen as long as the influx of fans into that area was monitored and they never erect fences.
The two biggest reasons Hillsborough happened.

But Hillsborough happened because of a combination of badly designed and poorly maintained terracing, poor policiing, and fans arriving too late.

A safe standing area at a football ground is no more dangerous than a standing area at rugby grounds, concerts etc, and even lower division football where standing is still allowed.

The whole point is to get the law changed so standing will be allowed in the Premiership and the Championship. The division we're in doesn't make any difference, we're not allowed to have a standing area in this division anyway, and I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be allowed to even if we got relegated.

We can't anyway the ground is too steep, so unless you knock down one of the stands and rebuild it its not going to happen. I think the stand has to be below a 21 degree radient or something:icon_conf

Also my College showed us a Video yesterday about football violence and they were being iterview at Filbert street and you could see all the standing area of the KOP. Although I wasn't pleased because they made it out like we were causing loads of violence!

What's with the new avatar webbo?

No one's suggesting making a stand into a large terrace. It would be relatively easy to convert small areas of the ground into terracing.

What about Ibrox then? Big crowd, terracing, big accident. Then there was Hysel (spelling wrong), that was terracing and a lot of Juve fans died.
A wall collapsing at St Andrews after a game against Leeds.

Not so many I can recall have been killed at all seater stadia.

in all fairness though stadiums are built in a less shed-like design to the terrace days. the main issue is people are just too scared to look stupid by singing, i think if we had standing the atmosphere would still be as shit......just my thoughts on the matter

I thought the Ibrox thing happened on steps as the crowd were leaving the ground, rather than being on terracing.

The Heysel thing was again not related directly to terracing, a wall collapsed, that could have happened in a seating area.

The Bradford fire would have killed fewer people if it had been terracing - it's harder to get out of a seated area quickly.

But generally grounds are safer these days because there are much more strict safety rules.

A safe terrace is relatively small, where it's not possible to have the kind of surges and crushes that used to happen.

Surely all examples of poorly policed or poorly maintained grounds failing.

How many died when a seated temporary stand collapsed in france a few years back? Marsielle?

The grounds on the whole now don't fail because of the regulations that all clubs/stadia have to work to.

Standing can be safe but the powers that be don't want it as a seat allows identification of offenders.

I'd like to see the return of standing. Maybe then the club could offer cheaper tickets and entice tight bastards like me down more often.
