Well it looks as though the furore I caused and the fuss you all kicked up has paid dividends.

AB and AN will have their redundancy notices rescinded because the club have trod the conciliatory path back to square 1.

The third member of staff resigned before being served his notice and this has been accepted, so will stand.

This guys, is a result for fan power, and despite what the club say, going public when they wanted it all hushed up has kept two stalwarts in a job.

Give yourselves a pat on the back.

Well according to Bruin, on the Rivals site it appears that the the Birch and Andrew Neville have been given a stay of execution. Either fan power has worked or it was one big wind up and the poster is now trying to save face, IMO it will be that the club have realised the error of their ways....

...Until the summer !

As much as we all look on the Birch as a stalwart at our great club I'm afraid to say that it is 2006 and LCFC like many other football clubs is a business with shareholders so is it justified to pay an alleged 30K salary for someone to provide half time entertainment that the majority do not even take an interest in as they are down in the concourses spending money on food & drink (which could be made cheaper if we saved the alleged 30K.

Haven't we already established that Birch does more than 15 minutes work a week?

Wots 2006 got to do with it - I like to think that we are and always will be a family club whose roots will never be forgotten for the sake of saving a few quid - so wot if Birch cost us money - at a guess how much has he raised for charity by doing his fun runs every season - long may he continue to be the ambassador of our great club

Thing is it's just going to mean costs are cut elsewhere. Some poor sods, who haven't been paid hansomely by the club over god knows how many years like Birch and Neville will get the chop.

We are losing the parachute payments and playing/running costs are going to have to be slashed again.

I'd like to know what other cuts have/are being made.

I wouldnt bank on Neville and Birch keeping their jobs long term, it has been unfortunate for the decision makers at the club, that this news was leaked out, the club fearing a backlash have backed down ....for now, but this will have bruised many an inflated ego within the corridors of power and I can imagine that certain individuals who have a point to prove, may well see the forthcoming close season to vindicate themselves without fear of retribution(sp) from post match demonstrations.

I can gaurentee that this back down will have caused great embarrasment to those individuals who had originally made the decision, and they will be determined to justify themselves, I really believe that the two have recieved a stay of execution. It was the timing of the leak that has saved them.

How right you are, PFKA.....

Good sense.

I wonder what the fans would really prefer - less cuts on the non-playing staff and more on the playing side?....I don't think so.

As you imply, the possible way forward may well be to reduce those who have no profile on the admin/ ancilliary staff.

To be fair (just for a change) the club is obviously in a difficult situation.

Don't get me wrong Boc I am not saying that I agree that Birch should be axed I know he does a lot more for the club than his 15 minute stint during home matches.
I am a big fan of Birch and all the good work he has done like fund raising for the Keith Weller appeal etc but I was looking at the wider spectrum where the board have to look at the club as a profitable business and every penny saved be put towards strengthening the current squad.
My suggestion would be to keep Birch but his salary be paid through sponsorship.

If all the value that Birch brings into the club were put into a bucket, do you think that there would be more or less than £30,000? If more, then surely he is already being sponsored.

:) Okay enough said I admit defeat gracefully on this matter.
